I am trying to replace the lite that lights the speedo.
I got the glass case that has the speedo and everything else
unbolted , but the shift indicator cable is keeping me from pulling it all the way one to get to the back.

PS once you unplug the headlight switch , the lights are on all the time. ..... must be a failsafe ? but then its just going to kill the battery

Hi,
you have to remove the lower trim below the steering coloumn and the steel shield behind. Then you can unhook the gear indicator cable at the shift linkage andd remove the one mounting bolt.

Best regards
Benny

All you need to do is remove the plastic knee bolster.

Tilt the wheel all the way up, and reach in between the steel knee bolster and the lower column shroud to pop out the shift indicator thumbwheel from the column. Make sure to unhook the thin copper wire from the gearshift lever before pulling on it.

You could also just remove the clear lens from the cluster with it still in. Then, unclip the shift indicator form the black bezel and move it down out of the way. From there you can work the cluste rout and unplug as you do so. This is how I prefer to do it.

About the headlamps - the LCM should shut them off after a little over 10mins. Otherwise, you can always remove the switch from the wood grain panel and plug it in while you work.
