Ford Motorsport lists the uncoated for $350 and the coated for $450. Summit carries them for $284 uncoated but has no price for the coated. I know they won't out perform the Kooks, but less than half the cost and stock exhaust stays. Should get some gains for the $.

Not worth the time and effort in my opinion, gain is around 5-10 HP, with Kooks more like 20-25. I know JC has them and he will tell you the same...

10hp isn't a bad gain for a shorty. I know I read that the logs on the modulars aren't bad from the factory, but I believe most things I've seen were on the 2V. And the install should be alot less involved than the Kooks. Sounds like the $-HP is similar, and if they are a direct fit, I think they may be worth the time. Looks like the crossover tube in front of the motor won't line up, but that can probably be eliminated. What the heck is that thing for anyway, just pollution crap.

kinda sorta needed.

Come on now... ya think?

The 96up I believe have it. Its a tube that runs from both manifolds down in front of the crank pulley were theres a thing of a bob that it goes into, that has a vacuum line that goes up intp the vacuum line harness. Then theres a rubber hose that goes behind the driver side fire wall(never followed it beyond that). Probably to a canister or something. Anyways its probably a OBDII thing.

Yea it's an OBD2 thing, if you remove it it will cause a CEL, can be turned off with a chip or tune.

I know the Kooks can produce better, but for less than 1/2 the money still a waste of time? Did you get 10HP or hands down no power gain.

I would say 10hp would be a good call, and yes I could tell a difference in sound and power but I also added a custom made X-pipe and dual exhaust so total gain was probably 15-20 hp. also go with the coated one's. not a waste of time IMO.

Thanks. I'm going to find out what the coated ones cost. I'm on stock exhaust but mufflers for now, but X on back is in the near future, may just clip the 3rd cat and swap in a X with the stock LSC pipes for now. I have a connection it will cost me peanuts. I Just have a hard time with the Kooks cost.

*Starts thinking to himself*
considering I did all my exhaust mods before I ever found LVC and long
before Kooks headers were available and the fact that I saved 400.00 bucks it was not a total waste of time. but if I was doing it now then yes, I would go with Kooks headers.

I've got Summit getting me a cost on non-COP spark plug covers, spose to call them back tommorrow. They never sold them so it isn't in there system, but the COP ones they have, he threw that price at me for a close quess price, same as Fords price so I expect them to be same as Fords price.

As far as the headers the coated price isn't on the web-site, but I'll ask them when I talk to them and post it, the uncoated seems pretty cheap so hopefully the coated is only 50-75 more.

or make your own...

can prolly make full length, if you have the patience to form the pipes around everything.

is what I'm thinking. Seems that the shorties would provide a much easier way to mount them than 3/4 length Kooks.

oh OK, well they were fairly easy to install, took me about 4-5 hours to do, but I wasn't trying to set any records and it was early spring so it was a nice and cool that day. I wouldn't recommend it in this ridiculous 100 plus degree heat we have been having the last couple of weeks. I always try to do any work on my car when it's below 75 degrees. :)

I will probably buy a set of these and some prebent exhaust tube and make a nice true dual system, then later on down the road see if I can wedge a pair of 57 trims in there. For now I'm too busy replacing the subframe in my ETC to do anything to the Mark. Thanks for the time estimate on how long it took you to install :)
