im sure youve all heard me vent about the problems ive been having lately with my 00ls8. i just paid 500 for new brakes and rotors and after that i noticed a loud squeaking from the front left wheel. i took it back to midas and they told me to spray wd40 in the dust boot. so i got antoher opiniion today from carx and they said the ball joints about to snap. the wjeel moves up and down about an inch. they want anther 500. whats a good price. they said that the way the ball joints' made it comes with the whole arm too and not just the bj itself. is this true. i would be doing the 90 days same as cash. should i do it. they told me that they wouldnt even drive it home its that bad.. insight please. HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO 2 ALL

It is true on the LS that you can't just get a ball joint, you must buy a whole new steering knuckle assembly which contains the ball joint. For one ball joint, the price should be $240.95 with 1.0 of standard labor. So, assuming you are paying $115/hour (the rate at my shop), you will be looking at around $375 with taxes included. Both sides pay 1.6 hours of labor, so if you were to get both sides done, it would be around $700. I would not advise driving this car if it is as bad as they say it is. Any movement is bad and it never gets better when coming to wheel play. Hope this helps.

The recall was for a retorque of the ball joint nuts which could loosen and cause a fracture of the ball joint stud. You wont be able to apply for that considering the miles on your car. The warranty you have should cover ball joints considering they are included into the steering knuckle. It isn't a hard DIY job, however, if you can get it under warranty do it.
