Are these the right heads?

Sean Hyland is one of the best around on 4.6 DOHC engines it would be hard to go wrong with anything from him. I'm sure they will work, you may have to go with a cobra intake. you would be better off getting a whole motor from him.

Or, VT Engines

Hyland is a little overpriced for me. Although.....................he HAS earned the right to be. They have been in to the modular program since the beginning pretty much.

yeah, thats a little turn offish, the price that is. I dont have the money to do a crate engine, also id rather build it myself over time.

I never heard of VT before, but their prices look unbeatable! i just may have to have them make me a block.

These heads will bolt right up to the mark block, right? (just tryin to get my pricing figgured out)
How does that saying go... A fool and his money are soon....!

Take your heads and have them ported by a company like Fox Lake that has alot of experience with our heads for a heck of a lot less than SHM is looking to charge. Heck, for that price you can have a complete forged bottom end and bolt up a blower for $3-$4000 more.

I'll be posting flow numbers for all the 4.6-4V heads in the Performance section so people will understand the 'B' heads are comparable in flow to the later generations and people will realize they are better off spending their money elsewhere for performance enhancing mods.

this man makes alot of sence lol....why spend an excess of 2 grand for 1k head work? now i'm wondering about custom grind for the stock cams, or should i go buy some cams from VT they have a huge selection

thanks for the advice. I was just going to get the high flow heads cuz i dont know anyone that i can trust with these heads. but you say fox lake, eh? do they have a site? I would not mind keeping the B heads. But i figgured since i was gonna get doubled valve springs and new cams i might as well jsut get the new one.

I have no issue doing head work especially on the exhaust side. That is were the 'B' head is weakest. Again, doing cams is big money for a small gain. There are cams out there out of an Aviator and Mustang that will show some improvement but the bang for the buck is not there.

My advise to guys on a limited budget (which most Mark owners are) is to do the bottom end with rods and pistons, (even the cast crank is fine to leave alone) so the motor can take some boost and put a centri blower on it. There are guys working on turbo kits and most will require a new k-member but those are a ways down the pipe yet. Our motors were blessed with a good stock maf, decent injectors, good heads, and a return style fuel system that only requires a bigger pump to put out 400 rwhp. Replace the injectors and you can see 450-500 without a ton of work. Even the coil packs or COP are decent enough for spark.

The tranny is another weak spot. I would always beef that up. For $1600, you won't have to think about that component again. Do some posi gears with some 3:73 for a boosted application and you have yourself a very nice street car for a reasonable sum of money.

Also make sure you replace ALL the bushings front and rear, especially if you have lowered the car and make sure to get it all aligned properly. Bigger sway bars front and rear are also another good investment as the stock units are undersized for the wheelbase and weight of the car.

And as a plug for myself, I would buy the best brake pads I could and then send me the rotors and pads to have them cryogenically treated to increase the toughness and longevity of the brakes.

17's are the optimum wheel size for ride comfort and sidewall flex although some 18's look killer. Anything bigger and it will look like you are driving a wagon.

All of this is my opinion. Yours and others may differ.

now that we are on the subject of FI, on my fox i was able to run a 175 wet shot and never had an issue, but since these motors are unforged, what are the limits that you have seen on them? and thanks for the advice on the cams....no need to spend too much on something that won't return the favor.

Definatly some things to concider...im still teetering on the fence about either a harda$$ N/a or a supercharged one...supercharged will be cheeper though, so i might just do that...but one thing is for sure, im getting it stroked. The cams i would swap in would be stage 2 cams, they offer a bit more gain than just replacement ones, though if i do plan on the supercharger, ill get the blower cams. One way or another, its gonna be fun.

Yes those are B heads... you bring in your stock B heads and they do the porting.

Cool, what will i need to replace, or can i use the stock stuff, besides what i want to upgrade?
