OK, maybe somebody can help me. This is kind of funny. My car won't shift out of "Park."

I turn on the car, hit the break, and it still won't shift. I can rev up the engine and all that...... I want to say it's the transmission, but it's never given me any problems before and has been shifting fine as of lately.

I think it's electrical because my back lights (break or tail) don't come on at all. Could it be a fuse? IF so, which one?

I don't know what to do.......except to sit in my driveway and listen to the radio? I got to go to work tommorrow, anybody got any suggestions?

I tried shaking the car, and it's not parked on an incline or nothing. I'm stumped. Nothing is working.

OK, this sucks....... I found a fuse was burned out, #32 on the inside compartment.... I replaced it and it worked! I was able to shift, but just once :(

The fuse was burned out again.

WHy does this thing keep blowing fuses...I'm gonna need a new fuse everytime I want to leave the house? This sucks....could it be a power pack or something...I have no idea... any help would be appreciated, thanks yall.

yeah im not sure if its the same thing but i had a 00 tarus and they had a recall on it. its some braking module or something look up a 2000 ford tarus recall for the brakes of some sort and you might find the problem. it sounds the same the car wouldnt shift out of park and the lights wouldnt come on. just some advice

It could be one of three things.....
1) Short somewhere in the wiring to ground.

2) BOO (Brake On/Off) Switch is bad.

3) Shift Lock Actuator is bad.

Since everytime you hit the brake the fuse blows that tells me that you have some sort of short to ground. Now that could be as easy as a sliced wire, or it could be either the BOO switch, or the Shift Lock Actuator is bad and shorted to ground. Try the following:

1) Replace fuse.

2) Disconnect connector C220 located at the Shift Lock Actuator (located right hand side on the base of the steering column).

3) Depress the brake pedal.

4) Check for blown fuse......if not blown repeat step 3 and recheck the fuse. If fuse is good then the Shift Lock Actuator is bad. If fuse is bad continue on.

5) Replace fuse.

6) Reconnect connector C220.

7) Disconnect BOO switch (located just behind the brake pedal).

8) Depress brake pedal.

9) Check for blown fuse......if not blown repeat step 8 and recheck the fuse. If fuse is good then it is possible that either the BOO switch is bad, or the wiring between the BOO switch and Shift Lock Actuator is bad. Fuse should be fine at this step since there is no signal reaching the Shift Lock Actuator.

10) Disconnect C220 again.

11) Check continuity between the Shift Lock Actuator and the BOO switch with a multimeter set to ohms position (if you have one) on the Light Green wire. If there is an open or infinity reading then you have a bad wire between the Shift Lock Actuator and the BOO switch. You will need to find the spot on the wiring harness that has shorted to ground. Open/infinite reading meens that there is a slice in the wire and when everything is in the correct position it grounds itself causing the fuse to blow. If the reading is anything other than open/infinity than the BOO switch is suspect to be bad.

Hope this helps.
