There are rumors out of Dearborn suggesting the next generation of Town Car will switched to a widened and stretched version. The next generation will be produced in Atlanta along with the LS. They also plan to go to a transversed all wheel drive 4.6-liter Triton V8. To make matters worse, they plan to drop the Town Car name and the reintroduction of the storied Continental badge which Ford product supremos want to make the ultimate Lincoln nameplate once again.

GMAN, I do not see how this is a downside for Lincoln, The Town Car is a geat car, I drive a 97 Myself and I love it, but I believe that it is time for a major overhaul and I think that the smart thing to do would be to return to the suicide door Continental, people would buy it just because it was a continental. An I am sure that custom shops would make a convertible version of it that would blow away the "Helios", the custom four door convertible of the 300C.

There are two possible downsides to this.

1. is if they keep the roofline so damn tall
2. If they make it a front wheel drive standard

If they do this I would only buy the AWD version. Plus, I am sick and tired of the 4.6, they need a new engine. Perhaps a standard version of the 5.4 that they put in the GT to give it a good 400 horsepower. But ever since Ford bought Jaquar, they have just crapped on Lincoln. They need something better than a warmed over version of the LS.

The up and coming Zephyr is a very nice car, with lots of pluses like a 14 speaker sterio system amplified with 600 watts of power and certified by THX.

It will also be offered with their next generation navigation system.

Anyway, if they crap on the Town Car I will be pissed, but I don't think they will do something as stupid as getting rid of the rear wheel drive, but then again, even the new Cadillac DTS is still front wheel drive. The continental would have one over on it if they went to AWD, which the will for sure.

Can't Wait to see the new Aviator, very different from the current Explorer warm over.

You know, you make some good points. The article I read in the March issue seems like Ford is going to go to a new platform based on the new Ford 500 and Mercury Montego which has ties to Volvo. The new execs at Ford are looking to market to us. We are the new buyers of these cars. In a time were more buyers are going Infiniti and Lexus. I believe that Ford is trying to make their luxury vehicles more competitive to the asian and german auto makers. Look at what Cadillac is doing.
