either the info wasn't there, or i messed it up! i have the factory cassette with the 6 disc in glovebox. i am keeping factory radio so i can use steering wheel controls. my question is: can i plug and play a 6-disc in dash, or are there plug differences? don't need it to be the alpine. are all the 6 disc in dash alpine units? i found someone to hook up the loc's for my amp, so i fugure that would be the best time to do it. also, am i blind, or is there no pause button for the cd player? if so, thats annoying!

you already have a 6 disc, you want another one? The plugs are typically the same. You can always go aftermarket on the HU and buy an adapter and keep the steering wheel controls, the adapter is around 49 bucks or so I believe.
Are you being charged to have the LOC hooked up?
Pause Button.... I believe if you just push the power button and the radio shuts off, and if you turn it back on it resumes where it was.

i would rather have the 6 disc easier accessible for my trips to fl. reaching into the glovebox as i am driving is difficult. i would be happy with a single disc unit as well. as far as pausing goes, i shut it off now, but thats dumb. i have a friend in a different car club that is gonna install the amp, speakers and loc's, so no charge. i looked at the back of a 6 disc and a cassette player on ebay, and it "appears" that the plugs are different. just wondering if anyone had any luck, or knows of a single disc that is plug and play.

Hey what adapter do you need to retain the steering wheel controls?
 
I would look on eBay for a Lincoln factory in-dash 6 disc changer. That's what I have now and I love it. The only downside is that you have no cassette....hmm...no 8-track either though!!! heh..heh..

I think with what you're looking for, that would be the way to go. All the steering wheel controls would still work. You wouldn't have to fool with the glove box.

I would imagine that the harness plugs are the same in these cars, some parts just wouldn't be wired. But that's just a guess. Here is an in-dash unit that is silver. I don't know if you need silver or black.

My .02 cents.

(And before you stereo guys start flaming away, my Blazer has an Alpine CDA-9853 with Boston Acoustics Pro50 5 1/4 component speakers in all four doors powered by an Alpine MRV-F450 and a Kicker KX600.1 pushing 2 - 12" Kicker Dual Voice Coil CVR's in a sealed box. Needless to say, I don't have a problem with non-factory stereo units! )
 
thanks mharrison. i don't think the later model radios will work, but who knows for sure. my whole interior is the woodgrain, except for the radio, which is black. there is a woodgrain radio listed on ebat, but it starts at $100. i'm not too sure i would like that though....too monotonous. anyone selling a 6-disc cheap?
 
As a follow-up

Was it determined that changing from the glove-box cd unit to the in-dash cd unit would be plug-n-play?

I am on the highway all of the time and I change cds probably more than usual. I hate messing with the glove box and the cartridge... There are a bunch on ebay that are in-dash and I would be willing to pay for convenience- if it is a direct swap.

I do not have the Factory Aline unit, in case that has anything to do with it.

Any help would be appreciated.

It is a direct swap. I did it about 3 years ago. The non-Alpines will only work with the non-Alpines, and the Alpines will only work with the Alpines. I got mine from www.greenleafauto.com. They are a Ford recyclerer. They also have a warranty.

you can still use the glovebox mounted cd changer with the in dash. just hit the cd button twice to access it. basically, you would then have a 12 disc changer....i personally love that in my car

That is an awesome feature... there was nothing special you had to do 00ls-sport? That is included in the direct swap as well?
