audio wiring installation help

I'm brand new to this board and i've searched and searched and could not find anything about running the audio wiring through my 01 LS V8. I plan on installing my aftermarket audio system myself. I've found a wealth of info on wiring itself. But, I now need step by step info on how to physically run the wires from behind the deck to the trunk. I would like all the info possible before i go and rip up my interior. Also, detailed info on how to remove the vents above the sound system.

If anyone can help, much appreciated!

Alright, I'm gonna try to make this as painles as possible. I assume you're hooking up an amp, but any other wires will follow the same method.

Take a small flathead screwdriver and pry off the air vent above the radio, and the trim around the cigarette lighter. Next, use a socket wrench, 8mm I think, to take off the bolts that hold on the cigarette lighter. Put the car in drive and move it out of the way. Next, take off the 4 bolts that hold on the radio, 8mm again I think, and pop off the harnesses on the back.

Run your RCA's and amp turn on across the glove box, but watch for the bulb (very hot). This is the hardest part, or it was for me. Once across, fit the wire under the plastic pieces next to the side of the car. The plastic sill cover pop off, and continue running the wire through the groove. Run the wires through the B Pillar and once agin under the sill cover in the rear.

Keep running the wire in the groove between the carpet and body after the rear sill cover. Fold down the rear seat, and fit the wire as best you can between the cushions, and into the trunk.

I hope this helps, and I will try to post some pics later.

also look into:
  • Harness to connect aftermarket head unit to existing wiring = Parts Express part number 265-610, Metra part number 70-1771.
  • Head unit mounting kit - PAGAN MODEL NUMBER 1943/IK-5000
If you are upgrading speaker you can also get connectors that fit the ford factory speaker wiring and plug into a standard aftermarket speaker.

I ran my wires under the console, under the "hump" carpet (it is very thick, the carpet), under the back seat (it is removed very easily) and into the trunk, where my amp lives. All the wiring is concealed.

I completely removed the interior (seats, console, lower dash, ect) ran new wire into the doors (factory wire is only 20awg) and ran all signal wire down the center under the carpet. Like stated above the carpet is very thickly padded and you will never notice it as long and you dont have any "bundles" of wire anywhere. I also ran a dedicated power and ground from the batteries in my trunk to the head along the passenger side with the stock harness. I dont have any install pics, but a do have a few pics of the finished trunk in my "Member's Photo Garage" here on the site.

Hello-
I'm new to the board and to being a Lincoln owner. Sorry if this isn't the place to post my question (i'm new to posting in general), but...
I'm buying a 2002 LSE with the audiophile, 6 disc in dash system.
I live in NJ but am buying the car from my father who lives in Bradenton, FL. I'd like to have an Audio In/Out cable installed so I can listen to my MP3 player on the drive back.
Is there a standard input for the cable on the back of the system? Would a Lincoln dealer be best to install it for me? Thanks! Tom
