Hi All,
I've seen pretty much all the problems everyone has mentioned and I am still in Love with my 01 LS because it leaves the Audi's, BMW's, and Mercs in the dust when I get on all 8 on the German autobahn.

This one is a new problem and my dealer can't figure it out without taking it all apart (which I don't want)....Every once in a while the headlamp autodelay will beep and turn on by itself then immediately turn off without me touching anything. Pretty weird but sounds like a bad switch or maybe a loose ground....

sounds like a bad switch or connector to me. remember turning the switch to off turns off the autodelay lights so I'd start there.

what I'm saying is that if you turn your headlights off or on (not on auto) you SHOULD get the ding and "autodelay off" warning. IF you are getting the warning while in "auto" I would think the switch is shot.

First off welcome to LVC....When you talk about leaving these in the dust, how much of a dust boil are you talking about?

Auto Beep

Well the dust usually has them back about 30 feet until I simmer off at about 130. That's when I usually feel my point has been made.....

It might be more interesting if the other cars were actually racing you....

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to offend!
Most Americans do not understand what moving into the left lane on the Autobahn means. I saw a Mercedes bump a another Mercedes when he did not move over after being flashed several times. I was in the number two lane at just over 120 MPH. The 120 MPH Mercedes did yield the left lane. Must have been exciting to get nudged awake at that speed.:)

You definately have to watch your rearview because they seem like they are far away but traveling in excess of 130 they are haulin and show up to your back door real quick!

I am thinking about putting that eibach suspension on it because I think that's the advantage those cars have at that speed--handling.....

Made a difference to me. If your concerned with high speed handling, be careful of the weight of any custom wheel you get. I had to look a long time to find an 18" wheel that was even close to the 22#s of the stock Lincoln LSE 17" wheels. There are plenty available @ $1300+ per wheel though.:) You might also want to review the aero tabs thread @ http://forums.llsoc.com/index.php?showtopic=10803&hl=aero+tabs if yours LS does not have them. The Euro spec LS were going to have them just like the S Jag but I guess they never actuall exported to Europe.

Here are some pictures of the Jag Type S aero tabs.

I have been seriously considering new wheels and am thinking about 18's more so for looks than performance. I ran into an issue with the LS in which it has alot of torque so the RWD is terrible in the icy/snow condition even with traction control. This was my first winter here in Germany with the LS and needless to say I am going to be putting winter tires on these stock rims for next winter! The weather is warming up so I am on the hunt for some new rims.

Thanks for the LLSOC link they have alot to offer! I have never seen those aero tabs but will keep my eye out for any aftermarkets.

What am I missing? He said "leaving MB, BMW, Audi, etc" "in the dust". In my book leaving someone "in the dust" refers to racing and NOT just feeling like driving faster than someone else. For the latter logic I get left "in the dust" by big rigs every day.......what is your point?

Obviously people don't read from your book......Point is most of those engine's don't have the same output as the LS. Drivers on the AUTOBAHN are rude if you don't move out of the way. I get out of their way by accelerating and leaving them behind "in the dust" is just a phrase but it's true they get left behind...Thought you knew!

It is really hard for someone who has never driven the autobahn, to understand what you were talking about. Most younger Americans only frame of reference is racing. They are not aware of the pecking order and protocols for autobahn driving. If you choose not to yield the lane you either "leave them in the dust" or get bumped) .

GWL I get the agressiveness and pecking order thing. And they use the expression "leave them in the dust" over there?

And the point I was QUITE OBVIOUSLY making was confirmed by Autobahn..."most of those engines don't have the same output as the ls". The whole problem I had with the original statement was he was eluding to the above. I love my LS, it's pretty fast...but you don't go around smoking too many german sports sedans out there. Not to mention he has an '01....so the comment "most of those engines don't have the same output as the ls" is QUITE accurate...most of those engines have MORE output than an '01 LS.

BMW & Mecedes in Germany are like Ford & Chev here. The fact is that most of them do not have the output of an LS in Germany. Only the very high end models do and they are not that common on the streets of Germany. Here in the U.S. BMW & Mercedes are almost all top end cars. In Germany, the big guys are not as common as you may think. 3 litre cars are huge engines in Europe.

3 liter is actually a luxury for them over here most stick with 2.0-2.5 liters. And yes I have an 01 it only has 45K on it....runs like a scalded dog and I am extremely impressed with the my sports sedan......Still need to tackle the handling at high speeds but was reading it gets bumpier with that pro kit installed......

It is a bit stiffer with the Eibach springs, but nowhere near what my BMW 635 CSi is with the Alpina suspension. It is all a matter of taste. The KKM intake sold by LSKoncepts.com will give you more oumph and a better exhaust will also help. The 03+ models do not benefit very much from an exaust upgrade as it was redesigned for those years. As long as you are in Germany, you might look into getting Bilstein to make a set of sport shock & springs to address high speed handeling. Not much available here except springs and Leda shocks & the Ledas are a premium price. If bilstein makes anything in Europe for the Jag S type you might be in luck if they fit. Also a lot of specialty shops in Germany do suspension work.

Actually, I believe that "leave them in my dust" is an American phrase with its' origins in the horse & buggy days. Don't know the German equivalent.:)
