Auto wipers question

Howdy,

well I got a nice bonus from Mr. FALECF4 when I bought the rearview mirror from him. I thought I was just getting an autodimming unit but it turns out its a nice autodimming, compass, autowiper unit. The problem I guess is that I have a 2003 and this is off of a 2001. I know they changed the computer systems and the way even the lightbulbs are networked in these cars has me wondering if this is even something I can add to my car. I've got the base model so I'm not sure I even have the wiring for it in the roof. I know GM was very kind about making only 1 harness and just leaving the wiring open ended if the option was not ordered or that the same wiring worked for both the base and higher level version of things but I just have a plain rearview mirror.

Is the windshield different?
Will the Gen 1 auto wipers work with the Gen 2 electronics?
Do I even have the wiring in the roof for this?
Can I even use the compass without the wipers?

GM? Ford makes Lincolns. I thought the auto wipers were taken out of the gen 2?
 
he was using GM as an example, i had a Monte Carlo and they had everything there for you if you wanted to add later, not sure about this prob thou

No, they were deleted somewhere early in the 2004 model year. Gen II started with the 2003 model year.
 
Don't hook up the auto wipers, they suck ass. Totaling the LS that had em saved me the trouble of disconnecting the auto part :p
 
I love my auto-wipers. They work freakin' great!

Nice! I thought it was just a standard feature on the LS. Well, you know I could send you the entire wiring harness and maybe that'd work. I could take some pics of what it looks like and the plug / computer so that you can maybe check and see if they at least look similar.

:EDIT: I also love the auto-wipers .... most of the time. Be careful when you decide to wash the windshield when you're filling up because they will go on if you have the key on and pass over the sensor. I have done that soooo many times and it will scare the sh!t out of you EVERY time!
 
Yeah it comes up the rear passenger side pillar and then up to the visors, moon roof, dome light assembly and mirror. It's basically one strand and then branches off at each part.
 
Hmmm... what does the other end plug into? Obviously I'm not going to go to the level of disassembly that you have to get this integrated but it would be nice to have it working.
 
I will be out by my cars on Thursday so I'll check it out then and take some pics if needed. It could get a little involved but the harness plugs into a computer in the trunk, if I remember correctly, so you could make sure that all of that is the same before you decide to tear into anything.

my guess would be, if it comes from the pass rear, that it would be comming from the REM on the pass side of the trunk

If you pull off the connector at the rain sensor the wipers will revert to regular intermittent operation.
That's what I did on my 04
