To those who installed the AVIC-d1 in a LS. How exactly did everyone make it fit? I'm trying to fit it in the dash but it is hitting a support bar in the rear. Did anyone else have this problem?

Also if anyone has pictures of the unit installed or even better being installed it would be greatly appreciated if you could post them.

Thanks

is that the double din one wit the navy? the pioneer?

Yes it is....and it's a GREAT unit. Even has XM Nav Traffic.

By the way...do a little research before you finish it up. There are a couple of little mods you are going to want to do so you have full function of the unit while in motion. As shipped, it locks you out of a few things if you aren't stopped.

Here you go....read through this one:

Yes, its a double din...

This bypass will do three things:
1. Makes all nav functions available while driving (just like they should be)
2. Make video playback available while driving
3. No more parking brake warning box!!!
AVIC-D1 lockout bypass: Find an extra Pioneer wire harness, and pull one of the wires out. Or, if you do not use the A.ANT lead, pull that out of the harness. In the AVIC-D1 harness, there is one open spot on the connector (next to the ground wire). Put the wire into the open spot on the connector, connect the other side to ground, then re-connect the plug to the AVIC-D1. Also, you must ground the Parking Brake wire (or connect to a toggle switch if you feel the need).

Thanks everyone. I already knew about the bypass around the stupid lockdown. Anything else? I know there are several users out there with the unit installed in an LS. Any input on the install?

Oh my! what does that unit retail for thats exactly what im looking for i love the indash look.

I'm not sure of the retail price, but I know its on the way down. Places are trying to clear their inventory for the new units to come out. You should be able to get them online for ~$800 or maybe less now.

i asked today.. my friend offered it for 1400 nstalled.. it comes with navigation but no DVD player i believe.. i got a kenwood double din.. as far as the install? i never cut no bar or anything.. all I had to do was let the TV sit about half an inch out.. its not PERFECTLY flush but it still looks good..

ya, i dont think you can watch DVDs on that unit... you have to buy a seperate DVD player to watch them... thats why i stuck with my AVIC-N1... and the D2 is out now anyway, why dont you get the newer one if you really like this model? i take that back, the D1 and the D2 are probably the same exact thing so it wouldnt really matter

Best on the market IMHO. I can use nav controls and or watch DVD's while car is in motion. internal 30 gig hard drive. 10 gigs for the nav system and 20 gigs to save music to. Eclipse AVN 5495. Give it a look.

how much did the eclipse unit cost you. i'm tghinking of buy my friends claron flip screen and i dont want to pay 800 for it when i can throw a couple hundred extra and get a brand new double din.

i personally dont like the trim much.. but isnt that an 03+ model? the 03 model didnt have that metal rod going across the back of the center console.. ... but its hot that the radio has memory like that.. how much did it run u?

it would look nicer if u add another frame around the actual TV... that way it looks cleaner.. if u want i can add some pics of that

Dartastic:

Does the Eclipse have a seperate "brain" or is everything housed in the double din unit? I am wanting the Alpine IVA-W200 when it comes out but it does not have a hard drive. I must say WOW that is a great feature.

The Eclipse AVN5495 is an all in one unit. Navi system is much faster than those that need a DVD drive. Turn by Turn voice prompts are very very accurate. And it will record your music from music cd's (not mp3's) directly to the hard drive in ATRAC3 format. About equivelant to an MP3 at 128kbs. 20 gigs worth. Only drawback is it does in real time so you have to let a whole track play to get it onto the hard drive. You find the lowest price on the internet and Ill tell you "Higher or lower".

I saw one of those Eclipses last week wehn I was in SLC Utah.

With respect, it may have a Hard drive, and the DVd navigation may be faster (I don't think the Navigation on my D1 is slow at all, i can computer a 1000 mile trip in something like 5 seconds), but the thing I didn't care for with the eclipse as compared to the D1 is the scren resolution. The icons on the eclipse are very pixelated, whereas the D1 are nice and sharp.

You go with what you like, ofcourse. I don't care to have a built-in Hard disk. I plug my 60Gig iPod into the adapter, and see the iPod screen on the D1 screen, and controll all functions from the D1.

So it's all about what you want.

I did hear the new Eclipse will have an SD card slot, and I really think that's a neat idea, but not enough to make me switch.

how much did you pay for the d1? and it plays dvd right? they sd the d1 doesnt play dvds above. i'm looking into getting a double din want to now whats a good one. i dont need the hard rive i use my ipod. and i see you said you hooked your ipod up? and you can see the screen. do you need an adpter (if so how much)? nd do you control it on teh ipod still or can you use the cd changer?

^^^
I use the DVD player to play music video's.. its actually quite fun for passengers.. :)

yeh i do the music video things its more for my passengers. i just want to add my ipod realy. dvds would be nice too. i searched the web and found everything i need. just need to find a good price. and on installation is it hard to do if you have know how or should i just pay for install?

and when i said can you use the cd changer i meant can you scroll through tracks on the ipod using the buttons on the navi or do you use the ipod to scroll through?

Well Frogman you are right. To each his own. I have kids that love to watch movies in the car so that was part of the thought process in buying it. And right now my Eclipse plays memory stick media.
