O.k., This subject has been brought up a few times but I have a new idea, I believe we have the same manual transmission as did the Ford Contours?....right??? B&M offers a short shifter for the SVT application. So do you guys think it will work with our set-ups? does anyone know of any changes between the SVT tranny and the base model tranny? Heres an Ebay link

don't know if it will work, but if it does you should get it.

I had one in my thunderbird sc and the thing was sweet. 2nd to 3rd was just a push forward.

 I'm not sure how this could even be conceivable, let alone possible: the Contour used a FWD transaxle, while the LS uses a normal RWD transmission. Even if it were the same tranny, the linkages would all be different, so it's almost certain that a shifter for a Contour will not work in an LS.

Wasn't the manual german made, maybe its common with some of those trans.. Good luck, the manuals are rare so even if it was the same as a more popular manual they probably won't list the LS as it fitting.

what about a shifter outta a mustang, or thunderbird
AFAIK, neither of those used a Getrag tranny, which makes it unlikely that a shifter for either will fit the Getrag in the LS. I'm not sure about the LS, but the 5-speed in the T-Bird SC was a top-loading design (ie, there's no external linkage--the shifter actually mounts into the tranny), so shifters for it will probably be implementation-specific.

Do you think if I went to a tranny shop they could machine me one, or is this just a lost cause??

This depends on the tranny shop; if they have a good machinist, he could probably fabricate one for you. He might also be able to adapt a B&M or other shifter for you.

I have a B&M in my Jeep Wrangler. It made a huge difference as the stock Wrangler throws are very long. Love it.

Anybody got any ideas to solve this problem???any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!!
