I got my back up camera installed yesterday. The camera is on the license plate and the monitor I had put on the left side of the dash. Its wired directly into the car so I can have it turned on all the time even when I'm moving forward. The only problem I see is that objects appear much futher away than they actually are. Its still good to see if there are any children or bikes etc in back of the car but I'm not sure how much it will help with backing into a parking spot at the mall. It was only $79.00 for the camera and monitor and $100 to install it.

What brand was it, where did you get it, and would you recommend it? My 1999 Continental, which I bought 4 months ago, gives me the same problem, and it drives me nuts. I posted an earlier thread on the same subject, and people just told me to get used to the mirrors. My outside mirrors trim down when I put it into reverse, but I have to adjust them and it still doesn't give me a good view. I'm curious as to, if this is the case with all Continentals, or if I'm just a doofus. I was a whiz at parallel parking or anything in reverse in my previous Cadillac Seville, but I could see where the rear end, ended. I would like to know how much help this gave you. I'm not in a kid or bicycle situation, just want to feel more comfortable when I'm backing the car up. Other than this one issue, I love the Continental. Thanks for any feedback you're willing to supply. Sincerely, Bill.

You can turn the "reverse mirrors" function off. I turned it off on my 00 because I think the regular view is a better view

I bought it on-line from etronics.com Its a Vialta VCBCS300 VR3 Color Back-Up System. Price $79.64 plus shipping. Its a good clear picture unless its really sunny and then its hard to see. Like I said the objects (cars or whatever) appear a lot further back than they actually are but I understand even the factory installed ones do the same. I'm going to sit a rubber garbage can behind me in the driveway and back up until I bump it and then check to see how far away it looks in the monitor and practice a few times that way. I really don't have the kids or bicycle problem either and wanted it mainly for backing into parking spaces. Hope this helps.
