This is for a 2005 LS. Does anyone know how to access the two rear sensors to change them out? There is no room to access them from up under the rear bumper valence.

....... Are you sure the two ultrasonic ones are the problem and not the center radar sensor (or the interior module)?

No, I am not although research has indicated that the most like culprit is at least one of the outer, ultrasonic sensors. They are the only ones that show thru the bumper cover. The center radar sensor is not exposed to the rear.

I may have it diagnosed by a local independent. Ford wants an arm and a leg to diagnose it and even more if it is just the outer sensors. You can buy those for about $55 each. The dealer quoted $350 if it turned out to be one of the sensors and about $900 if it turned out to be the module up under the parcel tray. They didn't quote the center radar sensor.

Just had the dealer diagnose the parking aid system. They said it was the main module that is located under the rear parcel shelf. They also said that there are very few of these modules left in the country and to order one, it would have to come from the east coast.

It seems that I have googled the part before and it appeared to readily available. However, if a part does not come from Ford, they won't go looking for it or use it for that matter.

Does anyone know how to access that module?

Thanks joegr. I re-googled the Parking Aid Module and came up with no sources. The dealer made it sound like Ford was on the verge of dropping this part. That is pretty poor even though this car is 9 years old. It only has 56K miles on it and has been garaged it's whole life. What are you supposed to do when the factory quits servicing these cars. junk it?

Joe, you had better luck than I did. Do you think these modules are plug an play or do they require any 'programming'. I'd hate to buy one and assuming it is good, have it not solve the problem for lack of a programming requirement.

btw, the Mrs had to spend $100 to diagnose it and if they had had the part she probably would have given the ok to replace it. She has grown dependent on the back up aid and is contemplating trading up. That would be a horrible waste of precious resources. Whether you have the money, or not, to dump a 56k mile perfect car for a 1/10th of it's original cost would be a sin.
