Bad coil (cop) on the same cylinder. Need Help

Hello Everyone,

I dont post ever but these forums are awesome for information. I've tried searching for this problem im having, but I dont see any straight forward answers.

I have an 04 Ls V8. The number 3 cylinder has fried 3 coils in the last few years but all the other cylinders and coils are just fine. I'm looking for possibilities of what could be causing this problem on only this one cylinder. Thanks!!!!!

Where are you getting the replacement coils from?
Is there any oil in the #3 well?
Did you replace the #3 spark plug with a correctly gap'd new OEM or equivalent plug each time you replace the COP?

If theres oil on the boot you have bad valve cover gaskets. replace them along with all coils and plugs.

I dont have oil on the cop. I replaced all of the cop's with what were supposed to be factory brand ebay items. I did replace the plugs with motorcraft brand every time but I don't remember gapping them. Thanks for the info. I will buy a new plug and gap it to factory specs. The plugs are 2 months old because i replaced the cop's then. Thank you guys again for your help!

Many have had bad luck with ebay coils.
So far, those who have tried them, have had good luck with Visteon coils.
