Bad night in Mpls

Damn shame. Just 2 weeks ago i was watching a documentary about bridge collapses in the US. The program said to expect many disasters over the next few years due to poor funding and old bridge designs that were never meant to sustain today's traffic loads.

Its bad..... sis in law is a 1st precent sargent "downtown Mpls "
She went down there at 6:30 didnt catch any sleep untill 2 am went back at 4:30 am.
Death toll is going to rise lots of cars are under the span of concrete in the river.:( :(
The bridge was only two lane at the time.
But it was bumper to bumper lots of cars are missing.
Biggest problem is keeping the idiots away.

I drive by there daily on the way to work. This bridge was tested last year and was rated "deficient" just as many other bridges in America are. They even have pictures of visible rust on the supports for this bridge.
After this happened, all the phone lines were tied up. Nothing but "Circuits Busy" when trying to call anyone with a cell.
You never know...

I was in Minneapolis for a business meeting Tuesday and Wednesday. I saw the "breaking news" in the MSP airport as I was leaving the city that day. I had been on that same road earlier that day.

Got stuck in Chicago and had to stay with my sis but that is typical of ORD.

Its great the Death toll is looking low.
Hard to belive that so few Died.
I wish the dam politicians would stay away.
Every cop is on 12 to 14 hours shifts no time off, they are dealing with trying to keep the area safe plus all the normal 911 calls.
The dam politicians just add to the already overburdened staff.

Scary part this isnt the first bridge to go down.

On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge over the Ohio River collapsed while choked with rush hour traffic, killing 46 people. The bridge connected Point Pleasant West Virginia, and Kanauga, Ohio. An investigation blamed the defect of a single eye-bar in a suspension chain.

The failure of rusty pins caused 100 feet of Interstate 95 to fall into the Mianus River in Connecticut, on June 28, 1983. Three people were killed when their vehicles fell 70 feet.

The Schoharie Creek Thruway Bridge near Amsterdam, New York, gave way in April, 1987, killing ten people. Investigators blamed flooding, soil erosion beneath the shallow footings, and poor maintenance and inspection.

How many times will a bridge fall before things are done right ?
I hope this is the last one but I doubt it seems like every 20 years one goes down from poor Maintenance and or poor Inspection.

They cant get close enough to see it at this point it is pretty well blocked off.
If you try to cross the tape you will find yourself in a jail cell in a hurry ;)
