Hi folks! Today I found a small leak coming from the oil filter adapter. It had a small crack in the body. (now a large crack!)

Has anyone replaced one of these without doing extensive dismantling, i.e. Power steering pump, motor mount etc?

Does anyone have an extra laying around?

I'm thinking of welding the crack shut... Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I just had mine replaced. The part (Oil Filter Adapter Gasket) is only $8.00. The labor on this job is $126.00 here in Houston. Just have the repair done. This is a bastard of a job. When I had mine done, it only took two hours for them to do the job. My total came to $149.00 with the oil change. I highly recomment going this route.

Depending where it is, you could have it TIG'd back together.

becareful tho, as not to warp it from the heat. And the job it's self is'nt too bad, but it is a PITA. Cause you should'nt have to do it.

The SOB is off. If no one has an extra base, I'll take it in to have it tig welded.

Pain in the ASS! I had to do that last winter laying on the ice with my hands freezing off, my tools frozen to the ground or my hand, and my frickin' socket broke while on the adapter bolt. Then I cut myself trying to get it off. Pay someone to do it for you...

Thats why it was so bad man. Cold working conditions ALWAYS make it miserable. I've been there before.

Nothing like swapping a fuel pump in a 93 lumina with a full tank, on gravel and lacking the proper tools to do the job.

It's not that bad to do, I did mine in 2 hours, but I was inside a nice warm garage! see my thread for a step by step how to. "oil filter adapter-coolant inlet gasket failure"

I'm Having trouble getting the base welded. Does anyone have an extra base they would like to sell? I don't suppose it would interchange with mustangs, would it? The car sits.................
