Bad Torque Converter

I got a "Check Transmission" light so I took my '03 LS into the dealer. The code referred to a bad torque converter. I don't remember the code number. They are taking it in on Monday for warranty repair. They said two days. What would have caused a torque converter to go bad after only 28,000 miles? I just purchased the vehicle.

Could be all kinds of things. Usually when the converter fails it is because there is debris in the atf. The question then would be why and where did the debris come from?

You could just change the converter but any reputable shop would at least flush out the system including cooling lines and cooler.

Sometimes just the lockup clutch is bad for various reasons and changing the converter is all it takes.

If you had the actual code readouts somne of the guys might able to add some good info.

Many of these trannies had issues, mine did. But usually it was the solenoid pack and valve body.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

Thanks, Jim. I'll find out more on Monday when I take the car in for repair. It just erks me because I just bought the car. I am not very schooled in the ways of the Lincoln so questions are my only way to learn.
