So i recently got 1 12" kincker L5 and a kicker kx400.1, i swapped all my speakers with bostons a while back. i still have the factory HU and dont have the speakers run off an amp. heres teh thing. when i turn the bass knob all teh way up itll be loud until i turn the volume up past half way. then the bass drops out, ALOt. why does it do this. i want the bass to be loud when the speakers are loud too. what do i need to do. would an aftermarket HU do the trick or amping the speakers. Any advice would be great.

is the L5 hooked up? i just installed 4 excellon 6x8's on all the doors and they sound pretty good. if you want to hook up the L5, you might need to get a bigger amp.....say 600watts. i'm not sure if the stock hu has rca connections, but if they don't then you would need a new hu. that way you'd be able to run an amp.

I had the same problem when I was hooking up my buddies system in his explorer with the factory deck. I think it might have to do with the high/low converter that you are using. You are using one, right? We never really figured out the exact problem because we ended up switching to an aftermarket deck. And with an aftermarket deck, your sound quality will be much better with your other speakers too.

i have the l5 hooked up to a line out convertor since the ls doesnt have outputs. but still nothign changed. i guess ill take it in tomorrow and get some opinions.

right - it sounds like you are taking an output signal and using it as a line input. This means you are likely overdriving the inout once you turn the volume up....

what year is the car? newer factory radios have a chip in them that turns the bass down when you turn the radio up. this is so that they don't have to replace the speakers all them time. I have found this when hooking alot of systems up with factory radios. the only way to get past this is to get a new radio. Also Most LOC only put 1- 2 Volts out which most amps will take up to 8V if not more so it does not sound like and over drive issue. if this was the case the amp would go into protection or would shut off then turn back on and keep doin this until the level is back to norm.

it should. that is the oly thing i can think of that will cause this issue? where did you get it hooked up at?

circuit city. for 95. i installed all the wires originally, then blew my 1st system so i said ill get this redone professionally. its loud at times. but compaired to what the stores display sounded like mines nothing like that. do u think they didnt tune the amp right. im looking for any suggestions. im going there tomorrow so i need to tell them what to do.

it's hard to say because I don't have anything in front of me to tell what is going on but if it does not sound anthing like what the display sounded like then 1st amp is to small and 2nd the amp is not tuned. I work for circuit city and i have put that amp on that sub and it sounded great so i don't think that is the problem. i would say take it back to them and have them tune the amp. if problem is still there they should take care of you with out a problem..

Oh by the way Circuit city is getting eclipse. Not sure if anyone wanted to know or not but..

nope.

are you driving of the stock rear amp connector?

if you are :

The trunk connector (on the drivers side) is number C465 and the sub audio uses these pins:
1 = yellow/red: switched hot
3 = shield for low level audio signal
5 = red: constant power from battery junction box fuse F418 (20 amps)
7 = white/red: low level LEFT audio signal
8 = grey/red: low level RIGHT audio signal

you have to deal with 'low level' outputs.

im running the LOc off the rear speakers which is of course conneted to the HU, with no amp. i was thinking maybe the stock HU doesnt have enough power to power it all so i cuts out and looses power. is that a possibility or am i thinking too much

man I havent been on here in a while, but didn't I call you out before for working at Circuit City??? Guess I was right on that one too. You said you "didn't let other people know where you worked, for obvious reasons". As for the question being asked about the loss of bass.....using a factory radio in an LS is a bad idea.....mainly because there is no full-range signal in that system....so you can never get the correct frequencies out of your amp until you bypass the radio all together. Even the JL cleensweep doesn't work right unless you get a device that sums all of the outputs together creating a full range signal. Hope that helps.

I was planning on hooking up an amp to my stock head unit(till I can afford a kemwood). Is this a bad idea?I not do all ls have the amp hook up pre ran or just the ones with premium audio?
