Well im in a bit of a situation here. I was listening to the radio in my driveway after work on Sunday with the key in the "ACC" position and i got out of the car and locked it with the door keypad, not realizing that i had left the key on. 2 days later i try to punch in the code on my keypad and, of course, nothing. Since i don't have a spare key i tried to hook a battery charger to the starter to get the battery charged up. Well this succeeded, but it set the car into the theft mode where all the lights blink and the horn honks. I tried the keypad and it wont let me unlock it, but when i press the last two keys, i can hear it lock. So it obviously wont let me unlock the car from the door keypad (I think?).

Any ideas on what my next course of action should be? I know i could go to the dealer and have another key made, but i know that will be pretty pricey so i would like to avoid that at all costs. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

well if you can get your hands on a pump up door wedge and get a bar and open up the lock from the inside... if not just call the tow truck sholuld be about 40 bucks...

there should be no reason your key pad wont work, chances are that since your key is still on, your charger cant provide enough power to run everything and charge the battery.

instead of using a battery charger, try using another car battery (like jumping from another car)

Agree. There's no "theft mode." Those were symptoms of the battery voltage still being too low.

just goes to show you, its insane to own any car with only one key, you really should always have at least two keys on hand at any giving time (three if it is a ford)

(6 if you have a problem)

Do note that a maximum of eight active keys is allowed. Also, I don't know if any Ford dealers can cut a key from the VIN anymore. The ones around me can't.

I tried a year or so ago, My Ford said they could not cut anything older than 10 years.... (06 guys better hurry up!!)

Three options.

Try better power source tapped onto starter.

Get a locksmith to open the door. Kind of funny how simple that really is.

Use a prybar to try to force open the trunk, kick passenger door, break window (can't find source thread immediately, but this is apparently effective! Not for getting the door open, but for entertainment)

driver door corner (top left) will "pull out" plenty to get a rod in to move lock... Scary easy. no damage at all (i used a flat head and a wood shim) took about 3 mins being careful.

Am I missing the post where someone would suggest attaching a jumper box/battery to the terminals inside the passenger fender well?

Or you can hook up through your cigar-lighter/power point. Virtually all auto parts places have a 'plug' for sale for a couple of dollars that makes this possible.

No, not when his problem is that he is locked out of his LS. The "cigar-lighter/power point" is inside the cabin that he his locked out of.

Yes, it's the very first post. " i tried to hook a battery charger to the starter to get the battery charged up."
This is the very same electrical node, and doesn't require removing the wheel and/or wheel guard.

Bingo, worked like a charm. Thanks a ton!

Well, if you take your expensive key to a hardware and have them make a copy, it WILL open the door or trunk for you. I have one made for each of my LSes. It won't start your car,but it will get you inside to your keys. I keep them in the change purse of my wallet or a good hiding place on the car. don-ohio :)^)

You can also use that chipless key purchase as an "in" to politely ask them to cut your generic eBay chipped key to program yourself later if you have two working keys. Don't argue with them if they won't do it though. Just come back another day and pay another $2 for a key to your car or house

Hmmmm......sounds like a plan,Franklin Delano! don-ohio :)^)

Funny, because some employees put a lot of TRUST in me.

I've used it a few times for both car keys and "DO NOT DUPLICATE" keys. You just have to accept they are under no obligation to do you a favor. Best and worst case:

"you have to come back when our Jingles rep is here"
"I'm just asking you to cut it"
"The wrong type of key can set the alarm off"
-- went to a diffferent Home Depot --
"We can't give you a refund if the key doesn't work"
"ok"

-----------

"My landlord wants $200 per key. I have a blank"
"This key says DO NOT DUPLICATE"
"the patent actually ran out a few years ago so you --"
"Don't worry about it. I work for the government. I know what you're talking about. And some landlords are ****ty"

LOL! Fortunately for me, I have never had a problem getting copies in the `hick town' of Jackson.HaHaHaaaaa! don-ohio :)^)
