Could someone please tell me if I need a specific battery for an 00 LS V6?
I know that it needs to be vented because it is in the trunk.

I just went on there website and put in all the info they don't show one available. Where can I get a vented battery fast.

They dont have one listed for the LS but trust me it works and it fits. I have a yellow top in my trunk, theres other members here that are running optima batteries.

i bought mine at ford and of course it was over priced. it cost me almost a hundred dollars. but it seems like i been gettin :q:q:q:qed alot lately.
and if you dont vent it isnt that bad? i mean arent there fumes from the battery acid?

um most batteries vent their gasses (exc. optoma). the special thing about battery for LS is they vent into a HOSE then out the floorpan of the trunk. If you put in a standard battery you would be venting into the atmosphere...bummer is in the ls since the batteries in the trunk the atmosphere becomes the inside of your car. not a good thing:)

So it sounds like I have to go directly to the dealer for this certain battery then unless I go with the Optima. Only problem its now Sunday I have no battery and there are no dealerships with parts dept. open on Sunday in MA.

I've posted this before, I've written to Optima and while their batteries do not normally vent they do recommend attaching a vent line to the battery. )see reply below).

YOU MAY BE ABLE TO APPLY VENTING TUBES TO THE TOP PORTION OF THE BATTERY.(i.e. small round charcoal pieces on top )

Thank you for your interest and support of Optima Batteries.

I had a similar question back in September:

"Are there any other battery experts on here?
I know an American car can't be this difficult to maintain, no auto parts store carries batteries for an LS, and I'm sick of going to the dealership.
I have an Everstart Maxx 65S (at Wal-Mart) on it now, no vent, drove 400 miles no problems. Can someone else with experience add some feedback on this?"

I have been using this same (non-vented) battery for 2 months, my trunk is not airtight and I've had no problems.
I can understand someone saying the battery gas is explosive, but again I don't have an airtight trunk and I doubt anyone else does either. The battery cost is about $66.

The gases are harmful to your health. That is why they need to be vented outside of the car. Since the trunk and the cabin share the same air the gases will leak out and occupy the cabin of the vehicle as well. Over time it can cause health related problems.

btw this type of battery config is not uncommon. many other (GM) american cars have a setup like this. as for the $66 walmart battery, sounds like a major bad idea. I've said this a dozen times, but this is and expensive car (new) and expensive cars are expensive to maintain. Just because the resale value is crappy doesn't make them any cheaper to maintain. This resale value is bringing in owners who either don't have the means or don't want or expect to spend the required $$$ on maintenance. This car requires 3 basic things that I'm hearing a lot of people complain about...1.) Premium fuel 2.) synthetic blend (or better) oil 3.) battery that vents to a hose. If you can't or don't want to swallow the costs of these 3 items, it's probably time to search for a new ride.

I have no prblem paying the cost for having a nice vehicle. I just want to know if someone can direct me as to where to get a vented battery,no matter what the cost, I just need it soon.

Well, batteries vent hydrogen gas. Can you say Hindenburg? So if you don't mind driving around a potential hydrogen bomb, stick with the non-vented battery. As hydrogen is lighter than air, the hydrogen is "settling" at the top of the car. Does it escape when the windows/roof are opened? Probably, but the battery constantly vents, even when not charging. BTW, you might want to post your location so we can avoid the boom!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I trust the engineers that designed the vehicle way before I trust any guy/gal in an auto parts store. If the guy at the parts store told you you didn't need the specified plug coil, would you buy what he said would fit? Get a vented battery!

What one could find using that cool "search" feature!

I don't have a problem paying $100+ for a battery, but it is extremely frustrating to find one in rural Georgia and my battery was dead.

You shouldn't accuse someone of not having the money to maintain a car. I can show you over $2k in maintenance receipts and I've only had the car for 14 months.

Do the current model LS's need a vented hose? Haven't batteries advanced enough to not need a hose vent? Plus, I get water in my trunk when it rains, so I'm pretty sure the gas has somewhere to leak out to. When I get the seals fixed, I'll get the new battery.

Do you guys work for Optima or get some kind of commission?

I'm not accusing anyone of not having enough money to fix it. I said either not having enough money or not wanting to spend it. In your case it may be the latter.

Moving on, I'd ditch that battery in short order...BEFORE you get your trunk fixed. Think of Radon and all those other things out there that you don't detect but kill you over time. It's just not smart to take that risk.

Looking at the Optoma corporate response above, that appears to not be a viable alternative either.

I don't think the Optima is not a good way to go, I just think the venting need to be taken care of. I'm still on my original battery. I've looked at the Optima. I need to have a source that's somewhat common so if the battery goes I can find a ready replacement to get back on the road.

The only place you are going to find a battery vented like the original is at the DEALERSHIP. Price is NOT out of line w/ the average AutoZone / WalMart top-of-the-line battery, no BFD. Optimas don't "normally vent", but it is when something "abnormal" happens (like over-charging) you'll be wishing you had the properly vented battery instead of that Optima. A small price differential is NOT worth your health or safety.

motorcraft 750CCA/935CA: retails $84.95, cost $79.43. 36 month free replacement, 100 month total warranty. i normally give better discount, but there is no profit to begin with on batteries.
