(to LOD members, yes i posted at both sites to get more help)

why do people say you can't make a true dual exhaust on a 95 mark viii? ive posted about getting a new exhaust on here before, but the place where we go to have the exhaust done says it cant be done? without removing the 3rd cat(are those the cat converters?), can you attach an x-pipe, run piping, and then the mufflers? if anyone has a build up of this maybe i could print out(one without removing the 3rd cat if those are the converters) i would like to see how you put the x-pipe in, followed by the regular piping and then the mufflers ofcourse. let me know, i really want this thing to be louder, the flow 40s on there are decent sound, but im a kid and i want it to sound badass lol. any help will be appreciated! i want a true dual exhaust, forgot to mention that the exhaust on there now is one pipe down the middle, branched off into two pipes with mufflers on the ends, so its not a true dual, i know true dual can be done. thanks again

Duals are possible....non-lsc marks did not have a "true" dual system....lsc versions had a dual in-dual out 3rd cat....3rd cat can be removed and h,x whatever mid pipe you want can be installed then rest of system can be done in 2.5" or a kit can be bought for our cars from a company called mandrelexhaustsystems.com or something like that...or a quality exhaust shop can make it happen

Just find a real shop
Or tell them that the car is for off road use so they
can cut out the 3rd cat legally.

so the 3rd cat is the converters? ahh.. idk if they would, even if i said its for off road use, my cars a 95, and here in NY, the car has to be under a 95 to not have converters, if it was 95 and under, i'd have it removed but passing inspection will probably not happen. ill look on that site, thanks guys

My muffler shop had no problem cutting the 3rd cat off my '97 LSC and running an H-pipe there. No shop should really have a problem with cutting off the 3rd cat. There are no O2 sensors downstream of that one. Removing it will not cause a CEL. From what I understand, the 3rd cat is basically a particulate filter on these cars and WILL get clogged eventually. When you start getting that eggs-boiling-in-sulfur smell on WOT acceleration (like I did), that's a sign the 3rd cat is clogged. When I had it removed, it ran better, sounded better, smelled better, and got better mpg's. Just do it. Get rid of that big useless hunk o' junk and run some exhaust under there!!! You won't regret it!

thanks for the help, im gonna have to think about it lol, will they give me a problem with passing inspection?

Just from my experience, no problems. However, my car is registered in a non-OBDII county. So they just look it over, scan the registration bar code, punch a few keys on the computer, and charge me $13 bucks or so and I'm done.

Right, right on the mark it varies vastly from area to area
You will need to research it in your city to see what they do when
Inspect
Here in MN I have no inspections :)

they make a duel exaust for your car.I have one on mine.It is duel into the 3rd conv. and duel out.

IIRC if you don't have OBDII in NYC, your inspection is (as of this year) safety only. They got rid of the dyno's. There are shops on Staten Island that will cut that cat out, you just have to know where to go. True dual it, and light em up through country donuts parking lot at Greenridge plaza, The folks that hang out there after midnight would appreciate it.

You will still have 2 cats in place so the possibility of not passing your inspection should be lower as long as they don't know it had 3 cats some people call it a resonater not a cat.
A funny story that happens to my dad he was in his 68 firebird that had the mufflers removed. He got pulled over and in KS the law at the time stated that a car had to have a muffler on the car it never stated it had to be on the exhaust. He took a couple of metal brackets and mounted the muffler off the block! They had to dismiss his ticket because he was within the discription of the law!

That's right! As long as there is one cat per bank of cylinders, there should be no inspection problems. As far as the "resonator" goes, only the base single exhaust Mark VIII's had the resonator. It was behind the 3rd cat. LSC's with the dual in/out 3rd cat didn't have the resonator behind it.

+1 yeah they got rid of dynos, i would lovee to get rid of the 3rd cat, run an x-pipe and louder mufflers. gotta see. and osmrc, can you gimme the link of the dual exhaust for the car?

I have a question regarding this x pipe they sell...

If memory serves me, isn't the dr side cat part of the exhaust manifold bolted to the head? How would this bolt up then? Would it require an exhaust shop to remove that cat attached to the stock exhaust manifold?

Site says it's a complete bolt on, but I'm skeptical
