I spent a lot of time cleaning out my 94 Mark VIII...

Took out the seats and scrubbed her carpet down good. She's a lot cleaner now.

But now she smells 100% cleaner but lacking in someway...

Any suggestions to helping her smell good? Better than just a hanging air freshener or the Wal-Mart spray bottles that just cover the smell until you re-spray..

Who's got the word on some very good I guess I should call it carpet freshener.

Oh $hit Autozone:eek: Does it come with Stickers I can put on my car:D Wal-Mart  Not The Dollar Store :p

If it's at Wal-Mart then must be available at our local hardware store.:)

my favorite is the new car pine trees. I use them in every car. They smell awesome.

To be honest with you, I feel it depends the color of your car.

For example. My '94, for some reason just seemed like an apple-cinnamin scented car. Just felt like that. However; my '97 has the ivory interior, and I find that either Bannana Nut or Vanilla are the two best.

Just a suggestion, and those I'm sure you could buy at your local carwash.

I really don't like to mess with the natural smell of a car, unless the thing stinks or something. Cars have a unique scent. Call me crazy, but when I get in my old 76 Mustang just to sit in it in the barn up north, the smell is the same. My LSE, LSC, my truck, TC all have there own scent. Even when at a car show everytime I stick my head in the window of a 76 Tornado, it smells the same as my uncles when I was 5yrs old. My brother bought a 73 Ambassador a couple years back and he couldn't get over how it had the same scent as his first car, a 73. Thats nearly 30yrs later. Its scary sometimes, but very true.

Now if a car stinks and you have to get rid of the stentch, thats different. Hasn't happen to me yet.

Problem was the car had an oder from sitting back last year when I purchase it. The car had the same oder still which smelled like it had sat for a while.. a stale smell.

When I went to cleaning it yesterday there had been a coffe spilled in the back floor... I'm assuming it was from Scott's Wife after he was showing her how fast the car went... LOL... Just kidding good friend.

But after the cleaning concoction that Danny came up with to really scrup down the carpet. Now after all is clean a dry there s still an oder that I need to get rid of... I don't want to keep this smell.. I've done good with other cars getting rid of smoker smells but this one is a little harder to eliminate.

I'm going to go looking tomorrow... I'm just looking for suggestions before I go hunting... A lot of carpet leaners use ammonia and I really don't want that smell.

I had the same thing happen to me w/ my '72 Torino (351C, Arr~arr). My parents had one back in the day. After I bought it in '00, they said it smelled like a '72 Torino....
Both in my Mark VIII and the LS8, Meguiar's leather care lotion brought out the best "smells" in the cars.

I used some on the seats but this smell is in the carpet... that coffee spill must have been in there a long time...

Fast and stinky, all things have a trade off. JK.

You see that Seinfeld episode?

Seriously a good cleaning with a good product should do the trick, the cleaning product smell should go away in time. I used seats from a junkyard car we bought once that were in great shape but the car had no doors and no glass when we got it and the seats were actually frozen. I thought for sure they stink, cleaned up and no smell, go figure.

Eeww, sugar and cream stains, ucky.... Just a thought if you pull the carpet out you can get more of the left over stench out from the back side and what ever else is remaining on the floor pan. Maybe you will find a tip! In my '64 1/2 ton I found a Mercury Head dime. That was the POR15 treatment and sound deadening upfit on my floor pan.

My handy dandy carpet cleaning chart sez;

Spotting solution.
Mix 1/2-teaspoon clear hand washing detergent with one cup water. Stir gently.

Then;

Apply spotting solution using small amounts and blot frequently. Do not rub, scrub, or brush. It may be necessary to repeat.

If this doesn't work call VanGo carpet Co. (623...) ~ What the Heck!! J/K

Haha POR15 check out my TC in my garage. Did alot of that.

You got to be careful with cleaning the carpet out off the car, its a good idea but if you steam clean it with some strong equipment, they can shrink and fit like crap going bank in.

Edit or look here.http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=23019

That is a nice looking ride.

I would think localized cleaning of the spot/stain wouldn't do to much to make it shrink. Would you agree?

Thanks. Lots of POR

Yeah I think as long as your not saturating and sucking the entire carpet with some pretty powerful equipment you should be fine. I only say that because I "heard it". I also looked at a car at a car lot once and the carpet seemed oddly small like it was short of being tucked under the kick panels and stuff. Didn't look like a replacement. I know the common at a lot is to clean the piss out of them to make them look thier best and assummed this caused it.

Those cleaners have to be used repeatedly. I cleaned up a dirty truck seat once. It looked like crap, but wasn't ripped or anything. I went at it with one of those cleaners with the brush right on the top. Seemed to work but wasn't quite good enough, did more and more, I think on the third or forth can it looked like new, like perfect. Got to really work it.

I have a home carpet cleaner with special attachments that I used to clean the carpets and headliner. I removed the seats, steamed, then vacuumed her top-to-bottom. Then, i sprayer her down with Febreeze...

Would you mind sharing the brand name and model?

thx-

W/ my '64 i had the seats out during the floor pan R&R and cut the hog rings off the fabric and washed the seat covers...NASTY!! Three washings w/ fabric softener later, Beautiful!! If I had only caught the wind shield leak before spoiling the new carpet and ensuing odors. ;/

I think it's a Bissel Turbo 5200. I bought it a long time aro for around $250. I'm sure they have newer models that perform much better for less...
