best tranny fluid?

What's the best tranny fluid for an 04 v8? I've googled it and gotten all kinds of answers but I don't want to put the wrong kind in. I want to put some really good stuff in it, it has a lot of miles and I'm trying to give it the best I can so the car will last.

What type/ weight does the LS take? I've been looking but can't find out what it takes lol.

Motorcraft MERCON V ATF
11.9 quarts

About $7.00 per quart at dealer

It's an SAE 20W, but I would stick to the exact requirement of MERCON ® V Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-5-QM

Thank you would it be better to have my mechanic do a flush or is it something I can do at home. I'm pretty decent at working on my car

Do a search on this site for transmission fluid change. If you can do it, great.

You need to get the car on jacks, or lift, and make sure it is level to get it properly filled.

The recommended and best way to do it is using the correct machine. Otherwise, it can be done manually.
