Just heard the roof of the Metrodome in Mpls. just collapsed under the weight of all the snow we just got. pics will follow when available.

sorry but with a teflon inflatable roof come on? make the roof out of something besides pipe thread sealer and maybe it will hold up!!!
 
I think all those years of Vikings fans screaming victory over the packers weakend the roof...:dancefool
 
Agreed on the construction of the dome, seems like a weak solution for a northern tier location.

Let's see some more winter blizzard pics. For as bad as it's supposed to have been I'm not really seeing the photo documention you'd expect.

Not really, IMHO. The last time it collapsed was in '83, and it's going to be a relatively quick repair--basically, they cut out the damaged panel, slap a new one in there, re-inflate it, and it's good to go. If the Metrodome had had a conventional roof and they'd gotten enough of a snow load to damage it, the Metrodome likely would've been out of commission for months instead of days.

Maybe there's a reason that most of the other northern teams don't have domes...;)
 
The funny thing is this storm only gave Minneapolis half of the snow we got last February in snowmageddon.

According to a report I heard on the news, they were clearing the snow from the dome, but had to quit because it was too windy. I'm guessing they must not have had that problem last February.

so this was the 5th time
81' 82' 83' 86' and 10'
this was only the 5th biggest storm for mn
in 91 on Halloween we got 27"
 
Hey GM ... I forgot who won on Monday night ... Oh I guess the Viking fans did as Favre didn't play.... Maybe Da Bears will allow you to play next monday night in Chicago
 
Well, the Vikes fans are going to have to break out their long-sleeved shirts--news reports say they're de-winterizing the UM stadium for this weekend's game. There is a problem, though--the tickets already sold for the game were based on the Metrodome's capacity, but the UM stadium doesn't seat that many (IIRC, they said its capacity is about 20K fewer)...

we would walk to school in Storms like this when we were kids...:eek:
another 6 inches of snow, we could call it a snow day..:D

still waiting for our storm, every year the weather man gets on t.v. ....."It's the storm of the century....don't go out tonight....6 to 12 inches of snow...." next morning maybe an inch

Good pics. A lot has happened since this thread started. I especially have to question that last pic of the buick 'in the tree'. The road doesn't even look wet or snow covered.....kudos to the driver for......uh.....not hitting the house? :)
