I have a 94 Town Car and it will smoke when I accelerate from sitting at a stop light.

I have fresh oil.
I replaced the PCV valve.
It does not smoke from a cold start.

I would not have a problem with it but the people behind me do? Bad for the environment.....

Any fellow T/C owners experience this problem?

It's the Notorious Valve Stem Seals that have gone bad... This is a VERY common problem with Towncars. Almost everyone who has a pre-98 Towncar has seen this problem... It comes from the valve stem seals becoming old, and brittle, and over time do not seal properly letting oil seep by. Most people notice it about 100K miles, but it can happen anytime. If you let your car idle for about ten minutes and then give it gas, you will see the blue smoke...

It's not the timing or fuel pressure, or spark plug gap... Like I said, it is a VERY common problem. You can have them replaced for about $800-$1000, maybe a little more from the dealership. If you do replace them, do not let the dealership or mechanic say that you need a new engine, this is not true. The seals only cost about $8 for all 8, and most of the mosney goes to labor.

Some people say that you should get it done ASAP, but mine has been doing it for 1-1/2 years without any noticeable signs... yes it does smoke a little after a stop light, but you can get around that by giving it a little gas while you're sitting there...

I am very thankful for your insight. I was questioning whether to keep or toss the car. It runs smooth as slilk and is in great shape. What a shame. Since it is so common and it's $1k to do the job, sounds like it is not workth it. Mine must just be starting to go sine it does not do it at every light.

I am questioning if it will pass a state inspection. I have 2 months before it is due. Darn inspections... Does it harm the engine if you do not get them replaced? Have you messed around with putting additives in the oil to help with the problem? I NEVER mess with any of those types of products because there are so many side effects.

Looks like I am going to keep this car and make a run of it. Again, I appreciate your help. :L

UPDATE:
I sent the car to the shop so they can research and find out the "real" issue. I had a check engine light flicker on and off. So they read the code and found a 538c, which is a EGG problem. They tested the EGR and it was fine.

The recommended repair is to remove Plenum and scape the carbon buildup and replace the lines going to the DPS. They are going to charge me $280 for this and includes all labor and parts. This is the root casue for the the puffs of blue smoke no doubt.

Interesting.....

You can do that yourself for $3.50 and an hour on a Saturday or Sunday... It's not that hard to do, and it will not solve the blue smoke problem... Mine has been smoking for 1-1/2 years, and I just did my emmissions test this past June in the middle of a HOT summer. I do not beleive it will fail you from passing, I don't know what your state looks for in the emmissions test. If you like I can post the results of my emmissions test and you can look at it...

The Mechanic is wrong in assuming cleaning and scraping the plenum will fix the smoking... In fact, I will send you a whole KIT KAT if I am wrong...

There really isn't any additive that I would recommend using... The problem like I stated earlier is that the valve seals are letting oil by, and it is burning thus giving you the blue smoke...

Ok after the trip to the shop. Blue smoke is still around but not as much.
