Nothing wrong with a BMW. Get both! That's what I plan to do!

The girl i currently work with, i guess her husband is a head saleman there.. and she told him about me, and he asked if i was interested in a job, he said they sell cars like crazy.. except dec-feb.. but still its like 4-6% commission per car... Figure if you sell 3 cars a month... you'd be alright..

I always say do what makes you happy. If selling BMW's will make you happy I say go for it! Just remember me when you get a cool 2003 M3 Convertible in. :Beer

I currently work for American Express.. I work in corporate Travel, only 22. Make about 40-50k a yr... but man this job sucks!!! I swear i'm gona have a heart attack working here!!! Literally... I've been looking for a new job for about 2 wks now.. had my 2nd interview at quicken Loans as a web mortgage loan processor. Still waiting on the call back.. 35k plus commission processing loans with leads doesnt sound too bad to me seeing that my aunt is a real estate broker.. but then again checkin out those beamers everyday doesnt sound too bad..

People love cars more than mortgages plus BMW buyers are a very different crowd so I would make a run for the BMW lot. The perks sound great.

Man, I sold cars, your young...seems all fin on the outside.. But its NOT all what it's cracked up to be. If your selling 3 cars a month plan on eating mac n cheese! LOL

Not trying to discourage, but if you want my 2 cents on car sales.. let me know. The dealers ALWAYS hype ya up on the $$ there is to be made etc. Plan on no life, no weekends, and your days off... plan on working. Been there, done that, bought the t shirt.

I sent you a pm!!!

Yeah I sold cars for Toyota back in 92 and IL-LS is right. The stealership pretty much owns you. The hours are crappy and the stress is not worth the reward. I guess part of my healing process was blocking out the bad memories. Don't walk, run away from the offer. The mortgage deal certainly would offer much more independence than a car sales job.

thanx for the responses.. he said i could work my own hrs.. but i know you gota put mad hrs in to make some $$$.. nothing wrong with that.. i work in a call center atmosphere and work 10-12 hrs days.. sometimes even up to 16.... I'm lookin to make some money.. I'm not to worried about the hrs/no life situation.. lol.. and they arent open on the weekends.. soo.. If the loan position comes along, i'm jumpin on it.. but the guy that did my interview said it could take up to 2 months.. cause they hire a bunch of people then throw them threw training.. so i'm lookin for something for the time being... just to get outa here...

You have to put in mad hours to be successful at anything. You're already in one of the worst white-collar jobs in existence (collections is about the only way you could go down); sales would actually be a step up from there. And working a BMW lot beats flogging beaters on a used car lot...

There's the potential to make a lot of money, but, IMHO, sales is something you've got to have a knack for doing, or at least the stomach for it (or, as it was put Grosse Point Blank, you need a "certain moral flexibility"). There's a reason that the dealership where my friend works won't even give saledroids business cards 'til they've worked for 90 days. I happen to know a few people who could sell a subscription for ice to Eskimos--and get them to renew happily--but I am not one of them. One has a knack for it; the other has a lot of expensive training behind him, but they both have the gift of gab.

On the serious plus side, you get to drive BMWs without having the liability of insuring or paying for them. :D :wrench What the hell, you're young--try it; you might just like it. Besides, it's one of those things you'll be able to say you did.

I don't know AmEx, but that sounds like a step up from where you are. It's still sales, but of a different sort. You won't get to drive BMWs for free, but if you're marrying the dealer's daughter, you'll probably get great deals on them in the future. :)

Did the whole financial advisor thing myself. Great if you're willing to put in 80+ consistantly. Personally I think it sucks not knowing when your next check is going to come. Not because it is hard to close the deal in this industry, but rather how long the paperwork is going to take. That and then the reversals and the clients being a royal headache. Interesting stuff to learn though but in my honest opinion its a :q:q:q:qty job. If you can succeed your first three years however you should be set with a good clientel base and just get referrals from them.
