I know everyone has been waiting for info on my turbo setup. Here is some preliminary info and a little video.

The kit was put together and installed by Robert at KBX Performance(ILLS) and the car was getting tuned at Straightline Performance(Great Guys) in New Lennox, IL. The best numbers we were seeing were 288hp 305tq at 5500rpm on a Mustang dyno with 90% humidity at 88 degrees. Dynojet equivalent numbers would be 311hp 330tq with a fairly conservative tune(12 degrees timing). They estimated 15hp is being left on the table due to the poor weather conditions in the shop and how it affects forced induction cars. Due to issues with the boost controller we were unable to complete the tune and make pulls to 6500rpm. I should have final numbers by next week and we anticipate getting around 310-320hp=330-340hp on Dynojet.
I will have a lot more pictures and video to post once completed.

For those of you that are only into number crunching these are results that would be typical of the conditions encountered when the car was getting tuned. Since I had to do another large project I wasn't able to tune Steve's car myself. I did talk with the fella who did end up tuning it and final spark was set to 12 deg advance. That is a real conservative tune. For purpose of comparison, lets suffice it to say that I am running a "bit" more spark advance on my own car.

Between only running the car to 5,500rpm, the conservative tune, Mustang dyno reading 10%-12% lower than typical Dynojet numbers and weather factored in it looks like my estimate of between 350-375rwhp (typical Dynojet numbers) was spot on for running 6-7 psi boost on this system in these cars.

I am glad Steve was able to finally get it tuned. Hopefully he will be able to have a little fun with the car now. Hey Steve, at least the car now walks the walk instead of just talking the talk if you know what I mean. I am sure it was hell having to deal with an all bark and no bite car for those few weeks.

heres some more number for the crunchers out there.... I've seen that vid 400 times, messed my pants 600, and did the mathout for the finances to get my turbos done 1000000 times! LOL

Steve is glad too...Will be happier once this is finally all wrapped up. Did some test runs today after doing some research on the AEM boost controller. I think I have it figured out...made boost 10 straight runs on Lake Shore Drive this morning. Fine tuned some adjustments on the gauge(wastegate pressure and duty cycle) and it now hits about 7.5psi and stays in that area. Will be getting back for final tune and hopefully final numbers next week.

Thats cool that your running 7.5lbs. I was only planning to do 6. But maybe Ill go up alittle more. :)

I love how you let it rip in the under pass.

I remember when I got my K&N adapter I was driving between some pretty tall buildings on a narrow street and got on it good, man the echo sounded like a formula racer..lol!

I also love the quality of the videos you post and wish I could find more of that quality to DL. See, this sounds dumb to some but my PC is networked to a media center on my flat screen TV so watching videos like this is awesome!

so what exactly was wrong with the controller? I am curious since I will be purchasing the same one.

Steve is encountering a situation where he is sometimes seeing boost and other times does not see boost when on the dyno while operating the car the same way. The electronic boost controller may be the culprit.

what about puting a manual boost controller in place or just a vacum tube to see if the issue goes away. I had a simliar problem with a previously boosted car and when I went to a vaccum hose to find the problem it showed a different symptom that was not the EBC. Just a thought

on a side note..... that turbo sounds unholy! takes away from the sleeper effect. I might have to reconsider the amount of work I want to put into keeping the car a sleeper and just go for blatent hot rod.... hmmmmm

I'm not sure...we have tried everything and come up empty. I even spoke with AEM tech support and they didn't have any thoughts either. I have a manual boost controller and boost gauge(just arrived) on their way. I am scheduled for next Thursday to have these installed and go for some more runs on the dyno.

Steve..

glad to see you we able to find a few of your problems.. I did not want to waste your money until you fixed the boost issue (which it seems that its still not fixed).. When we talked and you were unsure of "where the boost went", that made me nervous to have you drive all the way back to the shop for a "questionable" session... i hope things work out for you in the end with Straightline.. i know they are considerably closer for ya!

PS.. ive tuned 4 twin turbo cars in the last month with the aem boost controller and it has worked very well.. Hopefully you had something hooked up incorrectly or something simple was overlooked!

Bob-

Thats all fine; but the fact that you did not return phone calls, emails, or text is the problem I had with you. You could have said that on the phone and I would have moved on like I ended up doing...
As far as the boost controller hook up....you looked at it, I would hope that if it was hooked up incorrectly that you would have seen that...that's all that I will say on that part of this project.
