Brake Help !!!

Right now I am in the middle of replacing my brake pads and I started to put the caliper back on and it wont fit of course. But whqt im wondering is how do you compress the caliper so it will fit back on....

put a small piece of flat steel across the piston and use a C-clamp to depress the caliper, i have done this before, or go to a parts house and borrow a special tool to depress the caliper!!!!!
