In July I purchased a 2002 STS with approx. 35,000 miles from a dealer---a couple weeks ago at 37,000, I got a message from the sensor that brake pads need to be changed...Dealer service determined I need a full brake
job which they did--- at a cost of over $400...

A few days later I was driving the car and noticed the rear wheel was smoking...I stopped the vehicle and checked the emergency brake
which seemed to be ok---after that however, it stopped smoking and seemed to be alright...No sensor light or message came on while I was having the smoking problem... The car is back in the hands of the dealer for an engine
recall issue, and they are supposed to be checking the brakes...Guess my questions are:
(1.) Why did the emergency brakes to fail to fully release
(assuming that was the cause of the problem)...

(2) Are both back brake pads damaged---what about the front...

(3) Do rear brakes on the STS have sensors...

Thanks for comments,
KW

Hi Pepperman,
If you're showing off your Lincoln to make me feel
like I've made a mistake buying this Cadillac---I'm already convinced...
I also have a 1996 Lincoln Continental with 100,000 miles which unfortunately, moans and groans all the time trying to keep the air suspension going...As far as I'm concerned at this point---unless you can be your own mechanic, and/or rich--- these cars (Lincoln and Cadillac) are nothing but headaches...
