I seem to be having an issue with my brake switch. Once and awhile I can not put the car into gear and I have no brake lights. If i reach up under the pedal and play with the switch it will work. Is this something that needs to be replaced or can it be oiled or greased? I guess it is a safety feature if I have no brake lights the car will not go into gear...can this be by-passed?

I just fixed mine again Saturday so I've been there done that. The only way to get the car into gear when it won't work is to have the car off & turn the key forward halfway so just the acc is on. You then can put the car into N & start it & move the gearshift.

The first time I changed mine I didn't change the connectors which were toasted. This time I put new ones on & everything is fine now. The brake switch is only a $12 part so it's not so bad. check if your wiring is ok on the 2 connectors & change if needed.

one more question Dennis....I friend called the auto store yesterday and they told him that he had to get this part from the dealer...did you have to do that?

You can get it from the dealer, but AutoZone & Pepboys both stock it. I bought one saturday from Pepboys.
