Would NY/NJ ending up like New Orleans be such a bad thing?

Be safe easternites.:wave

its bad no matter where it happens, i wouldnt wish it on anyone truthfully, anywhere there is water surrounding low areas is bad news, although i wouldnt mind seeing the morons from jersey shore floating away, specially that little snookie dwarf sweat hog!!!

I am not taking chances, I normally work Saturday nights delivering bread through a chunk of jersey, and the rivers flooded last week from just a little bit of rainfall. I'm taking the night off, and heading to PA to relax. New York City will not do good with a direct hit.

The wind is scary, it's like a tornado parking over your city- but I worry about the storm surge most. You don't need to be hit dead on for that to ruin you home and destroy the city. If we were hit here on the West coast, St. Petersburg would make New Orleans look like a block party.

It depends on if Obama makes thousands of people stay on an overpass for 4 days with no water before giving them any help like Bush did. Then you have killings and gang rapes inside the large shelters that were provided, not to mention all the people that had to climb in their attics and bust a hole through the roof just to get out of the house. I guess some done some underwater swimming through the living room to get to the door. People do things they wouldn't normally do when there is no power for long periods of time.

Seriously though, I doubt it will get as bad as LA did because down there, the levy broke but it's been 118+ years since the eastern side has been hit like it's about to be hit. It's already saturated with rainfall as it is.

Jamie, don't speak too soon buddy, there is another one building and more to come. The peak season is Sept. 18th if I'm not mistaken and I said a few months back that I believe it's going to be a bad ass hurricane season this year. I think LA. and FL. both will get pounded before the season is out.

Right now they are flying all kinds of army helicopters over my house, coming from VA. and taking them to LA. air base so they don't get destroyed. I have seen about 15 so far and heard a few others.

+1 LMAO

I'm afraid it's going to hit the East hard. I'm in inland NC, so we haven't had a hurricane actually directly cause damage here since Hugo in 1989 (and I was 3 at the time, so I don't remember much), but I just have a bad feeling about Irene for those on the coast. I have a good friend who's a Marine who's currently deployed, but his wife (also a good friend) lives alone (while he's away) near the coast in Jacksonville, NC, and she's staying. I really hope I'm wrong and this thing isn't as bad as I'm thinking it's going to be.

This should be interesting.

The red line is Irene's forecasted path, the green circle is where I live!

Up here in Western MA, its raining pretty heavily right now. Were projected to get the brunt of the storm all day tomorrow. Their saying 10"-12" of rain total, iIrc. Brought the Mark across town and parked it in my grandparents garage so it should be safe there. I was going to bring it to a big parking garage in the next city over, but all spaces on all 4 interior levels were taken, the 5th level, the roof, was completely empty haha. Their saying 40-60 mph winds for tomorrow along with the 10"-12" of rain. They put up the dikes across the roads near the river in the next city over around 1PM today. I hope their garage doesn't flood or I will be PISSED! Go take the damn thing out, and drive it to the parking garage in the 60 mph winds!

nothing but a tropical storm like i predicted, new england got about what florida gets on a daily summer thunderstorm lol.
