A few fridays ago we had a wicked storm in central oregon, I have had a problem with dim headlights on my '93 mark viii, but this day I couldn't see 3 feet ahead of me. When running a system check (headlights off) the message, "lights ok if on" comes up. I always have to drive with the brights and cant see any clear solutions. Any advice?

Using high beams in fog will not help you see further. You could add a set of fog lights mounted under the bumper if fog is a regular problem for you.

The message you saw after running the system check is normal.

I added 8000K white led's and with the bubble lenses they are great. About as bright as my gen 2's. Fog lights are the answer to help in the fog. The lower the better.

You don't have an electrical problem or anything like that... Gen 1 base headlights burned out the reflectors and then they get really dim. You need to either refinish your old lights, or try to find new ones.

My 96 LSC HIDs, some think I might have paid a bit much for, cut through fog. I still think they were a deal. My original low beams were much dimmer than my corner lights and the high beams about the same as the corner lights..
