Hello,

I am about to buy a Gen 2 most likely a 97 Mark VIII Soon. I have a few questions before I buy one that I think you guys could help me with. First does the Gen 2 have anyway to turn the traction control off? browsing pictures I cant see any switch on the Gen 2 for traction control like on the Gen 1. Also I would like to find one with Heated Seats and a Sunroof but I cant seem to find one with both options did lincoln even make it with both? or are they just rare?

1. Trac control is disabled using the "command/ info center", which is located on the dash just above the radio.

2. I own an LSC with both of those options. The roof is nice, but the heated seats are just one more thing to blow out and replace...

3. Go with a 1998. The transmission is better and you're more likely to find the options you want- particularly later production models just before the axe came down on the Mark...

So the Transmission in the 97's are known to have some problems? Thanks for the help!

Somewhat. The accumulator springs are known to fail. It's a fairly cheap fix ($35 in parts, I think) and a tech article is availible on this site and others showing you how to do it. But if you're like me and have no room, garage, or clean way of doing it, it's a PITA to take it to the stealership.

Make sure you inspect the car thoroughly. Check to make sure the HID lamps are working, check the rear neon tail and scrutinize it for condensation, broken chards, etc. Look under the hood and make sure it's been taken care of, etc.

And try for an LSC. You'll appreciate the extra speed, power, and monochrome look...

You're also more likely to find a moonroof and heated seats in an LSC...

ive been lookin at a 97mark aswell its not an lsc but what excactly is the diff is it really that much faster????????????????????

I forgot to mention I was looking specifically for a LSC also you said something about condensation in the rear neon. What does that mean? its cracked? also is it expensive to fix?

much dinero bout 5-700 depending on who you know or you can get an aftermarket ballast for like 80 bux but i dont recommend it.
go fo the lsc you will never be sorry
Eric

I'd go for a '98 as they indicated... The LSC is the way to go... A bump in gears and typically options, and cooler wheels. (Unless you find a '97 with the bugs shaken out)

I agree with EVILLALLY, don't worry about the heated seats... I've got it in mine.. Fixed once while under warranty and then the Drivers side broke again...? Sun Roof is a must, find one with that! Shouldn't be hard, alot were made with that option.

I'd recommend a late '98... LSC. Shouldn't be more than $5K - $6K...
GOOD LUCK DUDE!

the lsc has true duel exhaust, its another 10 horsepuppies, not enough for you to feel...but its a starting point. why would you rather go 10 lower? thats the wrong direction! Id say go for the 98, dont jump at the first mark you see. This is a car the needs to be looked at very very thourily (<-spell check). Find one that is good, and she will treat you well for the rest of her life, even if you dont. Drive it like you hate it!

Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it. How much do you think would be a good price on a 98 LSC hoping to get one under 110,000 miles you think 5-6k is about right?

That is VERY LOW, but it's possible with like 105,000. But for one with lower mile it's more like 7k-9k, especially since you want an lsc with xtras.

Are them retail or private party prices?

I can give you my example. I bought a 97 non lsc with a rag top less than a year ago for about $8400 on ebay. I think it had about 68k on it. I do feel like I overpaid a little, but not too much. If you look around and wait you can do better than I did.

I don't how many threads you've looked at but a piece of advice. If you buy the car in the summer, remember to make sure the heater works. Damn you blend door!

Jesus H. Christ in a Continental!, you can see all the moisture in the neon tail...

Nice Mark for that price, I paid close to $10,000 for mine, but it had low miles and eveything working...

What does the condensation mean? the taillight is cracked?

The condensation means there is water in there :N Water + electicity = not good. I know if you see it in the headlights, your headlights wont last much longer. Luckily mine were still under warranty.

Get a late 98. Not all 98's have a 98 transmission, mine doesn't. As long as it was built in 98 it should have a 98 tranny.

I know what condensation is but im asking how does it get in the taillights?

I've got a 98 LSC with 110k. No condensation in the tailight, heated seats are used frequently and work. Noisy when the airbags pump up.
