Hey guys, new to the site and Lincoln's in general.
Since the LS debuted, I've loved it and now want to get one. Can you guys tell me what the common problems are for them? A friend of mine has one and said that wheel bearings are a problem and well, his differential went (v6, atx).
Also, for some reason, my bro keeps saying that they have electrical problems?
Thanks

I haven't had any of the major problems I hear about, like transmission problems, which is probably the worst issue I've heard. Another is the coils, I've had two go out but I took it in to the dealer and they changed them out on both occasions for free because of a recal. Aftermarket products aren't really there if you haven't noticed. But over all, I love my car. Now you can get an LS for cheap.

no eletrical problems here. The biggest problems would be with the very sensetive engine. Valve Cover Gaskets are the most common of any problem. Just remember EVERY luxury car has it's problems..so expect that buying a LUXURY car to keep in mind that problems might occur...so don't go thinking it's an invincible car...

i.m drinkin coors light tonight. haven't had it in ages.

common ls problems:
coils
valve cover gaskets
cooling system - prone to air getting into system, causing overheating
clockspring

can.t think of any others right now.

welcome to lvc!

Thanks for the responses guys. I went on another Lincoln board and it's been over 2 weeks and still no response to the same question!
I should've mentioned that if I buy, it'd be a v6 mtx. Anything different there compared to the rest, problem wise?
Thanks again.

petes what you drinking tonight? im drinking bud right now lol

drank wine, actually :-D
Beer is best at parties where you wanna be sober enough to get your d*ck up. Hard liquor is if you wanna get trashed or a woman trashed. Then wine is for dinners and event when you want qualit or quanity. To quote the movie Sideways "F*ck Merlot!"

Actually, it's "I'm NOT drinking any F*CKING MERLOT!"

to quote the movie lets go to jail, "Would you like some Merlot? I made it in the toilet":D

do yourself a favor an buy something else.It will save you a ton of money and you won't need to hang around the idiots on this site!!!

So for the above common problems you guys listed, would it be the same for a v6 mtx? I'm only interested in getting one like that, & I see alot of people bought the v8. So, I'm just wondering if it's the same for both engines and transmissions.

Pete covered these issues, and I have had all of them with my 00 MTX. Over heating was not because or air bubbles for me, but issues with the hydraulic fan.

I think you need to keep something in mind. LS's have issues, so do BMW's, Chevys, Buicks and Hondas. Nothing is buttet-proof if you drive it on the road. If you like the LS like many people on this website do, then buy one. This website had great resources to solve most any issue with the LS. Even though I have the LS shop manual, I have come here with questions and gotten great answers from members. If you are afraid to work on a car yourself, then buy anything newer with a warranty. Otherwise expect to pay the dealer to work on it. Repairs are expensive as labor rates are $85.00 an hour or more, for any car.

I think you are doing a great thing by researching what can go wrong with LS's in general. My advice, if you like the car, buy it after checking out CarFax and taking it to a mechanic. Any model or car can have lemons and those precautions should sort out the bad ones.

Good luck.

Yeah you wouldn't want to be in the same place fordfan is in, stuck here with us, poor poor him.

The LS is a great car. It has its problem but when you work them out it's worth it and i'ts a lot of fun to drive.I could've had a 06 G35 or a brand new mustang gt, I went with the LS instead and I'm glad I did.

Is it me, or is it more peaceful in the LS forums now? :D

No, I was thinking more like Pektel, the king of detailing and B.S.

Pete, Posted just in case you didn't want to be ignored.

BTW, why are there ads for Hyundai's at the top of this page? Of all the cars to advertise here, a Hyundai?

Guys dont waste time with crack heads like fordfan, just ignore them and they'll leave.

I own a Sport 5spd and Im not trading it for anything. I can buy a newer car but instead I wanna fix my rare lincoln to my taste.

Like said, all cars have problems. U can reduce the risk by taking good care of it and thats it.
5spds r hard to find thought, do u have one on sight already or have to find it ??
