I'm going to replace the coils in my V-8. I found them on Amazon and the reviews are great. But I don't normally work on cars so I was going to go to the mechanic to replace them for me. What do you think is a fair price to have the mechanic replace?

A mechanic quoted me $200 in labor for my v6 with my own coils and plugs. Better just do them on your own. I did them myself along with the gaskets. Now the car runs like a charm with no idle issues.
The v8 is the most easy of the two. Just need a deep socket 10mm or 8mm and take them out.

I did mine in about an hour this morning along with the plugs. I would figure anywhere from 45-75 dollars...If you do it yourself, make sure to use air and blow out the holes before removing the plugs. Otherwise, all that crap falls on the piston.

You will need a 7mm swivel socket. I got mine from a place called Pelican Parts, IIRC.....

Remember not to over tighten the coil mounting bolts since they can easily snap the plastic ear holder. Use a 10-12 inch extension and swivels to remove the farthest back spark plugs, its easy to do.
