My LS is the first car I ahve owned with a cabin filter, don't know if has been changed, would like to check it. Can anyone give me detailed directions on how to do this? Is it complicated? Need any special tools? Is the filter available from AZ?
Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

This is easier than opening your eyes in the morning. It is located on your passenger side in the engine compartment under the windshield. Take take the fasteners(push middle in with screw driver) out and pull back the plastic cover, pull out the filter. They should be available at AZ around $20 or so.

It's pretty easy to get to. Pop the hood and look in the upper left of the engine bay (if you are standing at the front looking backwards). There will be like 4 of the little plastic trim retainer "screws". Pull them out carefully and you should then be able to pull the entire black plastic trim off. Look inside and you should see the filter. I took mine out and dusted it off good and then washed it in Woolite. It didn't seem to hurt it at all and it saved me the $50 of buying a new one. Hope this helps.

it's in the owners manual - if you need one you can download it from this site.

- open the hood
- remove the plastic push pins in the cowl between the windshield and engine bay - on the passenger side
- the cabin filter slides out once you have 'popped' the flap on one end and snap the clip on the other - you'll see what I mean when you look at the new filter.

10 min job - no tools needed.

Those plastic retainers may have a center "pushbutton". That needs to be pushed in first and then the larger part wil pop out of the cowling.

If you try to force the retainers out, some will break, so the pushbutton, if you have them is important.

Good Luck,

i must be blind but i cant find the damn 3 clips u guys r talkin about. i c like 15 clips going across the plastic retainer but dont know if thats what u r talkin about. 2000 ls

yes - you only need to remove the one of the passenger side half

yeah remove enough of the clips that hold the black plasticcowling down, to the point that you can lift the cowling high enough to get at the door on the box that holds the filter. 3-4 of the plugs should do it.

Once you have the plugs out the rest is easy and pretty intuitive if you look around before prying things loose.

Good Luck,
