o.k. guys, I am pretty handy and can do most jobs on my own LS. I just don't know much about brakes. Can someone post a "how to" on removal of the calipers. I want to paint mine so they don't look so bad with the new wheels.

which paint are you using?

Don't remove them. Just jack up the car and use jack stands for safety. Pull the wheel off and clean the caliper with brake cleaner. Let dry completely and start taping off areas you don't want painted. This is much better than removing the caliper and then spending time bleeding the brakes. I didn't remove my calipers when I painted them and they turned out great. Here are a few pics of them before the StopTech brakes:

I painted the calipers with Dupli-Color Red Metalcast. Has a nice Candy Red look to it.

where did u buy the paint??

Ken, that looks really good.

that sounds like the easiest way to do it, so I will do it that way. I am pretty sure I can mask everything off....:D

Did u buy the brake cleaner at an auto parts store? And any brand that u recommend?

Did u clear coat them after the paint or is that right out of the can like that?

I bought the Dupli-Color paint at Advanced Auto. Any major automotive store will have it. I just used a plastic grocery bag to over the caliper to protect it from the paint. Then I masked up what part of the caliper I didn't want painted like the back of the brake pad. Any brake type cleaner will do. I got the cheap stuff but get what you think will work. Just put some cardboard or a pan under the rotor to catch the run off. Definitely clean the caliper BEFORE you mask it up. Just remember, brake cleaner will EAT paint so be carefull where you spray it and try not to get any on the rubber hoses if all possible. As for the clear coating, you won't need it. The Dupli-Color Metalcast has a helluva shine!

DupliColor makes a caliper painting kit. It's brush-on, so you don't have to remove the calipers. I had excellent results with it. (Buy an extra brush, because the one that comes with the kit will wear out.) Available at many auto parts stores.

Bill5,
where did u get the brush on kit??..... that sounds pretty easy to do....

That's how the G2 kit comes, brush-on paint (2 parts paint/hardener). You have to apply it a few times but its almost like a powdercoat when it dries.

What color??

o.k. guys thanks for the help,

Now, I need some outside opinions. Should I use
1. Silver (to match the car)
2. Red (to standout)
3. Blue (to match the emblems on the car)

My wife thinks that the red painted calipers will take away from the wheels I bought....But it's not her car and what does she know anyways:D

I am leaning toward the silver though. Just to clean it up. So I don't have these ugly a$$ calipers behind my wheels.

Also what about the dust shield if I go with silver do u guys think that would over do it??

My LS is silverfrost and I painted my calipers the Dupli-color red caliper paint. My wife says my car looks like a cheap hooker (the calipers) trying to wear a designer dress (the LS)! HA!

That's OK. I like it.

Lincoln caliper decal

My wife said something to that effect as well. My father in law has a mercedes ML55 AMG and it has red AMG calipers. She says I am trying to copy it...... On to the decals

I got ahold of a company that makes these custom decals for the calipers, they will do it how ever you want. I am just worried about durability. They only cost like ten bucks but I want them to last awhile. I am considering either lincoln decals or my last name. when I hear back from them I will let you guys know.

after seeing your car.. I would go with the blue, it'll look sick. silver would be nice to, but blue would be the best choice.IMO....

Thanks D.

Yeah it's a toss up between Silver and Blue. With the last post I made I may do silver with blue decals or vis versa.

I have them done in blue with a silver car here are some pics......I love the candy red though I wish I found that stuff instead but Im happy with the dupicolor blue....I would buy some extra spundge brushes..... It comes with one but it didnt last past on caliper......but anyways here are the pics

I say go with silver.
Do you still have the original black Lincoln emblems? If so, sand the back of them with 800 grit and paint the back of them silver too. Monochromatic LS would look very nice.

Yeah I' gonna go silver and put a blue Decal I haven't decide yet whether to put Lincoln or my last name. It will probably be Lincoln though. I found some caliber decals that are suppost to withstand 300 degrees f..... so I'll take a gamble. They are only $10. So it's not abhuge deal if they don't last.
