What is behind these indentations in the door jambs, first picture is the front, second is the rear. This is where I'd like to put my poppers, but before i go drilling, can anyone tell me whats there ? Thanks fellas.

I dont think its problay anything behind there, problay just the way the metal is molded on the car.

Or, it could be a special pace filled with faires and gumdrops. Either way.

thats where the special spk349992 computer is located.... I wouldn't drill there if i were you, your car won't ever run again.
I'm not joking.

I'm not positive as to the exact location, but the seat belt reel, with its associated explosive pre-tensioner, is behind there somewhere. It's probably not terribly close to that indentation, but get yourself a good diagram and make sure.

There might be some wiring running other there. I opened the side pillar when I was installing my sound system, but I don't remember very well.

Those indentations are probably molded in for panel strength. I would pull the interior panels out of the car and see if you can't look in there just to be sure.

:agree: There molded for strength, and the seatbelt reel is probably higher. I would take the interior panel off just to be sure.

Kinda revelent story, last weekend here a few thieves broke into a scrap yard and attempted to steal an airbag setup. It blew up in the guys face ripping his face away from his head leaving him laying in a pool of his blood until he was found later by his buddies. Went to the hospital in critical condition. I saw some sort of tv show about junkyards and it showed the hillbilly's who ran it "disposing" of an airbag explosive unit. It blew a big steel barrell about 8 ft in the air. Not stuff you want to make a "oops" with.

I watched a Toyota dealer setting off a few bags so they could send them in for warranty. (they have to set them off first...duh!) They hook up a trigger on a long wire and stand way back and detonate them. On one, the tech put it face down in the shop and said "watch this..." He pushed the button and that damn thing rocketed off the ceiling like you couldn't believe!

If you were in an accident that set those things off and weren't wearing your seatbelt, they would kill you. No doubt in my mind. Air bags are the greatest thing there is...but you MUST be wearing a belt!

Would it be possible to use a stud finder on it to see if anything is back there? I'm not sure if it would work with metal.

I have had the interior side panels off before. They are not hard to remove, a little trick to reinstall say 5 minutes each to align with the uppers. I would check myself if I were you.

That's why the passenger-side front airbag in the LS is disabled if the front passenger's seat belt isn't buckled.

That is very smart. Absolutely true story:

In Boise a few years ago, a car pulled out of a parking lot in front of the young gal and her baby. She hit the car broad side and set off her air bags. The baby wasn't fastened correctly. The guy in the car behind her couldn't imagine what it was the flew out the passenger window. When he got out and looked....he became violently ill when he discovered it was the baby's head. The bag decapitated the child. Look it up...that story is absolutely true.

Some poeple just don't listen. The baby should not have even been in the front seat of the car. If poeple would just listen it would save them a lot of heatache. There IS a reason they say to kids in the BACK seat at all times.
