why is the after market aluminum intake tube for the v8 ls is so damn expensive? i remember when i bought an intake with the tube for my integra it was like 100 bucks with the filter. :ricesmile n e ways, the ls is like 90 for the filter and almost 400 for the tube. what the fudge?!
i just ordered the filter from Ken but damn.

Michael,

Lou is right above. It's a small market and each one is hand made by a local machine shop here in town. However, the craftsmanship of these things are incredible. Also, you would not believe what steel prices are nowadays! Holy crapola steel is outrageous. We have been talking about a steel version that can be powder coated but stainless isn't that much more than just regular steel.

ouch! does most of the improvement come from the cone or the tube? i would think the cone. also...is it easy to install the cone or aRe there ANy tips u guys have to a sucessful install. hopefull its worth the hundred.

Well, the cone and tube work together but using just cone will give you a definite increase in performance. You're butt dyno will tell you what you're feeling! The KKM kit comes with installation instructions and is very simple to install. You're hardest part will be taking the old air box off and that isn't all that difficult. I'd say you'll be up and running in 45 minutes to an hour.

Exhaust shops with mandrel bending machines and 3" SS pipe. Pipe and bending it isn't a problem... welding the bungs onto the intake is the problem. Not everyone welds SS.

You got that right Mike. The guy that welds my SS tubes together is a freakin' artist. The welds are so smooth inside the tube that it's like just butting two tubes together.
