I parked my car last night and it was running fine and today it won't start. It cranks over, seemed like it wasn't getting enough fuel and I was pretty low so I put another 1.5 gallon in it. Still won't start. Now i'm thinking it's not getting any spark? Crank or cam sensor finally went out but with no warning? Any ideas guys...?

Turn the key on for a few seconds then off without cranking. Repeat a few times. Check for fuel pressure at the schrader valve.

Other possibilities include battery terminals, cam sensor and/or crank sensor.

I already checked for fuel problems, there's plenty of pressure and fuel at the schrader valve. How can I diagnose if it is the cam or crank sensor. I am pretty sure it is one of those.

Save yourself the time and headache, just buy one of each and replace them (they are only like $20 or something like that each if you get them from Max @ 5 Star Ford.....1-800-866-1520 ext.236). If not you will most likely end up like I was.....stranded in the middle of NO WHERE and the car would not start after replacing just the cam sensor.

I since then have purchased them both and replaced them both. Here is the location of them. The cam sensor is easy to replace......just remove the steering reservior and there it is right behind the resevoir. The crank sensor is a bit harder, but not by much.....here is what you have to do to replace the crank sensor. Like I said, it is not that difficult to do, just a bit harder....since you have to move the A/C compressor out of the way.

Hope that helps.

I would just unplug the crankshift sensor the plug it back in.. It might just start for you. Its showing the PCM that the motor is at TDC and unplugging it might reset it. For less the $ 30.00 parts and about a hours labor, I would just replace both the Crank and Cam sensors. Sound like your on top of it, Good Luck :give

When do these usually go bad? I've got 134,000 mi. on mine and I am going to indianapolis in a few weeks to see the OzzFest show. I don't want to worry about getting stranded! Thanks.

Usually the wire going into the crank sensor becomes old and brittle and 'shorts' out. You have to check the wire going into the sensor. While your at it, might as well replace the sensor line Ray said. Also, how old are your spark plugs? Might want to check the gap on those too.

I had to replace mine on my green car @ 120K miles. So, it might not be a bad idea to order them and install them before the trip......preventive maintenance if you will. :Beer

I have brand new spark plugs in there less than 500 miles on them.
