no, but ew at the idea

I think its a good question....If someone is looking to go with more of a sport/euro look with their LS.

I even did some research on the subject a few months ago. There are some Carbon Fiber manufactures out there that will work with you to make the custom hood........ it's gonna cost some cash though since it will be a one-off design. Let me know if you want to move forward with the idea. I can talk to the company and if I can get 5-10 buyers I may front the cash and see what kinda prices I can get.

Does anyone know if all Ls hoods are the same 00'-06'???

what would look different about it once you paint it?

You generally don't paint them. I've had some guys ask me to spray candy apple over it if their car is red, looks pretty nice.

so carbon fiber finish on a LS hood? Sounds disgusting.....

Basically yes. The '00-02 have the windshield washer squirters in the hood, but the '03-06 do not. I'm not sure about hinges and such. I have an '02 and a '06 so I could check for differences for you if you want me to.

I would be very thankful....Macboy.....

I already put in a call to my guy here in San Diego, and he said he will do some research on it and get back to me. He said he knows of a well know carbon fiber parts company a few hrs away. He thinks they will have no problem doing the job. The only draw back would be that I will loose my car for a week or so, so they can mock up the hood on my LS. Like I said if anyone else is interested let me know.

Beaups....I have seen some very nicely done mercedes with carbon fiber as well as some Lexus IS's and ES's. It's not for everyone though.

I am in. I have been looking into this to without much luck.

One other question. Could they do the grill surround as well?

Let me know the cost and get the cash together.

It would with a layer of the red sparkles in my paint sprayed on it so it blended with the car.

Still wouldn't impress me, however, a suicide hood on an LS. That would impress me. I don't see it as how much money you can spend. I like creativity. Making something happen that shouldn't happen. That impresses me.

CF that's painted and clearcoated to match would be indistinguishable from the stock aluminum hood (except for the fact that it won't ripple under the dryers at the car wash :D ). Having one fabricated also gives you the opportunity to have custom features molded into it, like NACA ducting or cowl induction.

It will also reduce the car's radar cross section... :shifty:

ok - I'll drive you home, drop you off, forget this conversation ever happened...

don't you get it - they want a CF hood - forget silly things like cost, speed and looks......

OK, I will check it out then. We had rain all day yesterday and this morning, but the weather should clear up this evening, so I will get out there.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it shouldn't be made. I think it is foolish to have a car ripped apart for years to put a supercharger into it. Everyone has things they want to do to their car. If you don't like one then you can have your opinion but posting numerous times about it is a waste of time and space on the board.

If you see Carbon Fiber Hood in the title and don't like it then don't even bother opening the topic. Leave the thread to the people that are interested in it.

Depends on the color of the LS whether or not the CF would look good. I a grey, black LS I think it would look nice but there would need to be more CF on the car, like mirrors maybe even trunk.

I have seen a few CF hooded cars that have been painted but you could still the CF look, was pretty neat.

Be nice to see made for the LS to give others more or a chance to make theres different from the many stockers you see everyday besides wheels and tint. One thing I do not miss about the LS is the lack of market, I have already found tons of things for my car, could literally replace every panel but I doubt I well do that.

it sounds like a pretty good idea. would be a nice change to see some more custom parts for the ls whether you like the idea or not it is another gateway for more parts to be made for our cars think of it that way.

I've been trying to think of some custom parts for the LS. I work extensively with fiberglass, but I'm not real big on major change with my LS. I'm only willing to change things to add luxury and convenience, besides the normal grill, rims and lowering springs.

I dont prefer carbon fiber. I feel it takes the flow away from a good paint job, however, I did see something like vivid is talking about. It was a civic (red) with a carbon fiber hood with a red tint and clear coat. Was a very professional job. Like I said, not my style, but definitely stopped to look, and realize its (whats the word?) uniqueness.

OK, except for the washer nozzles I already mentioned, the hoods on -02 and 03+ appear to be identical.

update....

I talked to my guy again and he is in contact with VIS up north of me. They are one of the largest CF dealers in the U.S. Anyways they need some pics of my car to geive a ballpark on price nothing concrete yet. I will be sending them detailed pics tomorrow (friday) So hopefully by mid next week I should have some info......

oh yeah I also mentioned deck lids, and body kits.....just to get some feed back....I'll keep u guys posted....

Carbon fiber would look tight on an LS. But I heard they crack and can shatter after a while. A friend of mine has an IS300 with a full body kit and hood made out of cf. He told me that you have to put hood pins in, and this will cause it to not crack or shatter.

carbon fiber trunk and fenders would look bad ass too (on a black ls)
