Hi everyone

So I just bought a 93 Mark 8 almost 2 weeks ago. Since I have bought I have been noticing more of these cars driving around my area. However mine has a carriage top or cloth top which ever you like to call it. Is it a dealer installed option?... A rare option? Or something the previous owner had done?

Congrats on your purchase. The carriage roof is definitely not factory - I believe some dealers installed it, and of course it could be an aftermarket addition. I'm not sure how you'd tell, but it wasn't a Lincoln factory option.

Dealer installed = not factory or even a Ford made product usually.

And removal usually does major harm to the paint. Its generally not worth removing unless you plan to repaint the car.

Its not rare or something the previous owner did.

Its a landua top that some dealership stuck on to make it look like a convertible, that is all.

Welcome to the Mark VIII community.

Welcome to LVC! My first Mark VIII had the carriage top and I have a parts car out back right now that has one too. Dependng on who installed it, they can be a real pain to remove. The "collectors edition" one is riveted on. The "panther edition" was glued. I found one a while back that had been repainted so the car was one color, but under the roof was a different color. Enjoy the car and rest assured that there were not very many with the aftermarket clothetop.

Show us pics too!

Not too many ppl like the landau tops but there are still some Marks around with them on. I owned a triple blue 93 with the landau top. I recently found out it was spotted at a local junk yard. What a shame. Very low mileage Mark. Yours is nice though. Welcome aboard.

I don't mind it all that much, I couldn't pass up the chance to buy the car. I'd invest in a supercharger for my mustang before I would paint the car to get rid of the top

Should have invested in the supercharger instead of buying the mark. That is ugly! Or set the top on fire and claim it on insurance and then repaint instead. :)
