Hello,

Newbie here. Finally got my dream car. I have been looking at them for years. :)

Used LS 00 with 154000. (Great Deal on Price) :)

CEL comes on with 0420 code. :(

Temps are as they should be according to a Meineke station I trust and gas mileage is fine. Car runs great, accelerates great, and more.

They think it is the CAT. Is there anything else I can do to be sure? Quoted $493 to replace. Is that a reasonable price or should I go to the dealer.

Also, popping sound when going slow on small bumps. There is a little play up and down on the front tires. I can get a set of knuckles for about $300 (for both), is that a good price?

Thanks for you help with the Newbie.

the popping is prolly the ball joint, real common problems with the 00 ls'. As far as the code is it deriving weird, shaking, sputtering....

No drives great. Lots of power. I took it out and ran it between 50 and 90 mph on the highway after Meineke ran an emission cleaner. After about a week, had the code reset. Came back on after 24 hours.

Is $300.00 for a pair of knuckles that include the ball joint a good price?

thanks

300 for the ball joint installed is a good price. im being charged right now 375 for mine at the dealer.

That is not installed. That is just for a pair of the units. I think the install is 1.6 hours. Is yours $375 per side or total?

If you unhook the battery for maybe 30 mins, the CEL will turn-off. It will come back on later if there is a problem.

right - P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

no nessecarily the CAT but could also be O2 sensors, ...etc

IIRC - the CAT should be under extended warranty for 80,000 or 8years

Yeah, I have 154000 miles so it is out. How much should I expect to pay to have the cat replaced? Also, what is your opinion about dealer vs. somebody like Meineke?

thanks

IMHO - the cats are fairly regulated - so if Meineke has them, and they are cheaper - do it. It's gonna be big $$$ either way

They quoted me $493 out the door.
