i'm sure this has been brought up , but the forum search isn't working

the bat light came on a couple nights ago , kinda flickering , i turned all of the accessories on and it dimmed and went out
so i figured it was over charging , i'll replace the alt. , i had to limp it home and the bat died , i replaced the bat with a new one just to get it home
charging light still on , everything was bright like it was still over charging , and the gharging light was still flickering , about a half mile from home the lights dimmed and the charging light stayed on steady
so i replace the alt. and fixxed a wire that looked a little worn , and the charging light is still on , everything seems to work fine except for the charging light staying on
when i remove the possitive bat cable the car dies , so it isn't charging
is there a fusible link or a fuse that may have blown from it over charging
i don't want to tear into the harness , because it looks like a nightmare

Did you have the alternator tested? Also, check the grounding points for the alt, (where it mounts to the block). If those get corroded, you could have a problem

i replaced the alt with a rebuilt unit , i just bolted it back on , i didn't know of any special grounding points , nothing looked to be suspicious

Did you check the main charge wire comming off of the alternator? I don't think you have an overcharge problem, just a bad connection.....

On one of my old cars, there was a ground jumper to the block near the motor mount, not sure with these, but you could try just hooking a ground to the block to see if it helps...

not good to disconnect your battery when the car is running, it can burn out diodes.

also, the test is disconnecting the negative side of the battery, not the positive.
my 1997 did the same thing a few months back. i replaced the battery and alternator and it has been fine every since

i'm going to test the alt. tonight , i don't think it is working , the wire to the battery is fine and the wire to stimulate the alt seems to be fine
i checked to make sure the alt. was grounded and that seemed fine

alt. is only putting out 10.5 volts ,thats what i get for trying to use a reman , guess i'll refinance the house and buy a new alternator ..lol

reman are not always bad.. but sometimes ya get a crappy one.

why pay for new alt housings and stuff that dont wear if you don't need to?

i got an alt. that my buddy had laying around , the car is now charging but the battery light is still on... WTF
