While i was warmin up the car this mornin i was revin it a very little bit, and i noticed a bit of a chatter comming from the passenger side of the engine bay. What could that be?

Does it go away when the engine heats up? Maybe bad valve guide?

yeah, it was just that once for like 3 seconds...its gone now. If it comes back ill post somethin. Im prolly just overreactin :)

Dag, dude, you're having a lot of issues with your car lately...I feel for ya.

yeah, well...it was sittin for almost 6 months, so i figgured id have to deal with a few problems. Nothin big. (unless i gotta do my head gaskets :) )

You really should show constraint when driving that car with the cooling issues you're experiencing. These engines don't respond well to being overheated.

Are the timing chain tensioners typically noisey? I have seen this mentioned before.

I tried a pair of big vice grips, as tight as i could, hit it, pushed it...nothin...unless...its one of them reverse rotation kinda things. like rightey loosey, leftey tightey?

This is typical with all modular motors. I know this guy who has an 03' cobra motor and trans in a mustang II, And he said "its the nature of the beast" the explained to me about how the tensioner relaxes while the car is not running. Once it is started up the tensioner takes a few seconds to tighten back up. I also heard someone say that on another lincoln forum.

The early engines had a problems from the factory of making excessive noise from the timing chain and tensioners upon start-up, especially in higher mileage motors. In later designs this problem was addressed. I do believe the kit for the update is still avaliable but it is around $1200.00 without labor. Not a real fun project, so unless the noise drives you completely batty, I wouldn't do it. Usually the noise will go away within thirty seconds or less.

I have only heard this noise on my friend's 93, never hear it on my 95 or 96.

$1200? Holy crap....what parts is it?
Those timing chains are LONG!
