I am lookin to get a new paint job and was wondering if it was ok to get it done at maaco. the est. i got from them was $1200 for their signature job including; base, clear, and Urethane coat. this was also including removal of all dents and :q and to repain the int. of trunk where a little pealling is occuring.

ive been to a few auto body shops arond town and they all want like 5000 :shifty: and said macco uses "cheap" enamle paint.

The paint i am gettin is with clear coat so i dont thinkit would be enamle?

Anyone have experence with maaco or know about paint? haha

What is the down side of a cheap paint job? looks? 1200 i did not consider to be cheap but idk.
i saw some of their car samples and it looked good

Thanks for any input/help. :D :D :D

only thing is you have to completly prep the car yourself if you want it to come out good, tape off everything you dont want overspray on(any chrome trim peices, etc) and also wet sand and buff when its done. You pretty much get what you pay for, the paint isn't really that bad.

oh yea they said they were gonna replace the crome trim for that also......
what is wet sanding all about?

I literly have to tape everythign off...that stupid what am i paying them for....ha

this comes to paint too. ive seen more than a few maaco jobs. i could have done better in my driveway with a box of rattle cans.

Go to a body shop and ask them for a quote - they'll tape everything, wet sand and what not - but it'll cost you $5k

hmmmmmmmmmmm.........................
maby my paint is good enfough for now.........hahahaha
i guess ill look into a few engin parts, to get my mark back up to speed after puttin my heavy ass wheels on it, instead.

thx for all the input.....
i am glad i posted i had an appoitment set up for next week.....no longer...haha

my dad had his truck painted at maaco in january, and then again in february and then again later in february.

he spent 1150$ then had so many problems,he had to threaten legal action to get them to paint it over, then still found problems and complained some more,at one point the manager made him leave the property because he was freaking out on them.

the truck is finally decent, but the put the fender emblems on the doors, and i forget what else,i remember him telling me all the crap they did,

i know 1150 is cheap for a paint job,but what the he!! does there 400-500$ jobs look like?

by the way,in case some of you dont know this

AAMCO and MAACO are the same originators :

MAACO is an American-based franchise autobody shop founded by entrepreneur Anthony A. Martino as an acronym of his name (similar to AAMCO.............AAMCO is an American-based transmission-repair franchise founded by Robert Morgan and Anthony A. Martino (for whom the acronym AAMCO was named.

sooooooo... STAY AWAY FROM BOTH OF THEM !!!

wow. news to me.

there have been a few horror stories about aamco on 3si.org with our trannies.

No $hit? That explains a lot.

Prep is everything. A buddy got his 69 Camaro done at MAACo, but did all the prep -removed all the chrome, and glass - except windshield, sanded every inch, especially the hard to get areas like under fender lips. Even taped everything but the windshield - of course they managed to get over spray on that. Sprayed the suspension with a thick soapy mess so all he had to do was wash off the soap and magic over-spray gone. He watched them do final clean, prime and shoot 3 color and 3 clear coats - cost was $1800 (upgraded to the now infamous deadly IMRON DuPont polyurethane for $300).

We did the final orange peel sanding and buff.

A decade later it is still has a near show paint job.

maaco isnt bad at all for painting, if you know someone who works there it helps.. its the prep and body work thats half-assed.. the more you take off the car.. the better it will turn out.. plus you'll pay extra for the prep.. they dont usually offer it , so you gotta ask for it... it won't be show quality but close .. if show quality is what you wanted you wouldn't be looking at Maaco in the first place

my experince with a maaco wasnt a good one either it is true with the saying you get what you pay for. i would never go back to a maaco again. i will agree with the line mentioned above that you can paint a car better with spray paint.

you dont have any hook ups?

my mark is starting to show some rust spots. and paints wearing down and dents and scratches and all. my dads friend said he would do a triple black paint job, clear coat, and remove the rust spots, dings and scratches for 2k. hopefully, you know someone who knows someone who can get you a good deal.

Personally, what i've seen from macco is crap. my friend got his car painted for $800. *dodge intreped, nothing special*. the paint started cracking after 2 years and macco told him the warrenty had expired. i wouldnt go to them but thats just me.

Find some local car guys and ask around... I'm lucky enough to have found a local forum filled with people who have had paint work done (racingsouthwest) so if you could find something like that and ask you'd be good to go.

yup you get what you pay for a good paint job is all in the prep work!!!!

exactly..it's al about the prep work..if your do a crappy prep, you get crappy paint application.and another thing...never trust macco! they use crap meterials, think thats why they advertise get your car painted for like what $200bucks...lol...you wanna use second stage paint not one stage paint application where everything is mixed in one container.

the place to get really nice paints(thats if wanna do the work urself,or have a real body guy do it ....buy from "HOUSE OF KOLOR!!!! they are the only guys we purchase paint from(WE BUILD AND PAINT RACE/PLEASURE BOATS,thats how we know these peeps)...plus they have an array of colors which macco doesnt have!

:I

HoK is the bom when it comes to paint. The variety is overwhelming you can spends days just picking a shade of color, not to mention pearl and metallic, kandies and speciality additives...
