Need a rasp file to take some material off the shaft to closer to 1/2". Replaced the chrome gromet with a 1/2" chrome washer from ebay. Scrwed in a 3" shift rod extension. Got a weighted knob from ebay. Finally slipped a chrome sleeve cut from a chrome towel bar to the proper length. I think it looks cool.

That DOES look cool. Does the new knob have the shift pattern on it?

Looks nice. My only concern would be the shower rod wallering out over time and getting loose, so keep the measurements. If this happens you can get a stronger piece made to replace it.

seems a bit long...longer than stock?

that what I was thinking... hell I don't like how tall the auto shifter is, really been debating on cutting it down a bit and giving it the short throw treatment to go with the reverse SST!
