My compressor is not kicking on. The rear is tucking the tires now.
I check the fuses, but non were blown.
I found this, but don't know where the circuits are...

Anyone have a better walkthrough that explains were some of this stuff is?

Also, I tried to get to the compressor, but the washer fluid holder is in the way. I took 2 bolts out of it, but it still won't let loose. Is there a hidden bolt? Anyone have detailed instructions for changing the compressor?

Thank you.

the air suspensioin relay is behind the right hand fog light, above it mounted to the frame rail by the horn.

it has to big wires going into it and two small wires.

Either your compressor took a dump, the relay went bad or the wires going to the relay are corroded and broken.

To get to the compressor you will have to take the battery out, the battery tray and the washer fluid tank.

question

 when i put my new rims on the other day i had to turn off the air suspension to jack it up...after i was done i forgot to turn it back on...as i drove to the nearest stop sign the message came on the dash and said it was disabled...i was wondering if it will damage the SUV in anyway to drive it with the air suspension disabled? it looked really cool since it appeared "slammed" on my new 20's....any help is appreciated. Thanx.

It won't hurt anything on an Expedition or Navigator to drive it with the switch off, but if it has a leak, you'll be scraping the ground soon. Even if you don't have a leak, you'll need to turn it back on from time to time(3 weeks or so) to let it pump back up.

So the back was slammed? If so, that would be something to look into. Each air spring in the back has its own solenoid. The solenoid acts as a gate to allow air in or out. When the switch is off, the solenoids are disabled and no air should go in or out of the air spring. If it does, you have a leak in the air springs.

I would recommend doing a leak test and go from there. http://www.americanairsuspension.com/LEAK TESTING.htm

i turned the truck off..and it lowers a couple seconds after the ignition is turned off. i flipped the switch after that so it had time to lower. then after the rim install i drove a little...this is when i noticed that it was low. but the air ride works perfectly if the switch is on. I only have had the truck for 1 year...it's under warranty till 100,000 miles or 10 years...so i'm good!

A leak usually goes unnoticed for 6-8 months before the driver realizes theres a problem. Because the system is all automatic, it will automatically pump up when it needs too. This is very hard on several components. Especially the compressor & relay.

You can drive the vehicle with a leak for however long you want to, but the cost of repair increases dramatically if you wait until it damages something else.

You should probably check to see if the air suspension is even covered under your warranty. Most companies consider that a maintenance item, like brakes & tune-ups.

My wife has a '99 4x2 Expedition, and we've already had to replace the rear air springs. Again, the longer you wait, the more it will cost.

Air Suspension and Procrastination DO NOT MIX!
