i was wondering what were some of the benefits of getting a performance chip installed. What is the best one for the money? Are they damaging the car at all? Can i put it in myself? Is it even worth getting one? thanks.

Well, right now SCT has the XCalibrator II that flashes your EEC and improves power and driveability. It's $375. It also reads and deletes CEL codes and real-time analysis. All you do is find you compuer code and tell them your mods and plug n' play. You can also go back to stock.

It's definatley worth the money; not only can read codes (pays for itself right there), but it imporves fuel economy and power response. I think the average gain is around 15 RWHP. Alot of newer LS owners are getting them lately.

Only problem today is you'll have to use premium fuel; which as you know, is already expensive here. I'm paying $2.50 a gallon right now...

I have spent countless hours providing custom tuning R&D for Torrie at Ford Parts Network, on SCT chips.

You have the benefits of controlling many paramteres. The SCT Xcal's are cool gadgets, but if you just want a simple, yet effective way to fix the funky stock parameters, without going too hi-tech, email Torrie. he sells single, and 4-bank chips...

BTW, the XCalibrator II cannot be used on EEV-IV/OBD-I electronics(pre-96).

$2.50 a gallon here as well. These prices are breaking my wallet.
